We have been a Kraft Dinner family forever, it was a fond food of my own childhood too. I don't mind serving it, yes we have made our own home-made macaroni and cheese but there's something about KD that has kids coming back for more. Our kids love it as lunch or a side for dinner, sometimes they'll just want KD for dinner, of course I will try to sneak in a side of veggies now and then.

A few weeks ago I was watching TV and I saw a commercial for Kraft Dinner's new KD Smart - Kraft Dinner with 1/2 a serving of vegetables right in the noodles. I thought it would be something interesting and was looking forward to finding it in our local grocery store. Lucky me, instead of having to go out and hunt for it, our friends at Kraft Canada asked us if we would like to try it out!

About Kraft Dinner Smart:

KD Smart is macaroni and cheese with the classic cheesy KD taste kids already know and love, but with added ingredients like oats and vegetables right into the noodles. There are no artificial flavours, colours or preservatives, and every 50g bowl (3/4 cup prepared) contains a half serving of veggies, is a source of fibre or a source of Omega-3 polyunsaturates - all without changing the taste. Best of all, it's a quick solution that, paired with a serving of vegetables or fruit, makes a balanced meal. Stress averted. Phew. And picky eaters will never now the difference!

Our Experience:

The kids were delighted when we opened up the box and inside was a mini shopping cart containing boxes of Kraft Dinner Smart and four bowls for our family to enjoy it all in! It actually came at the perfect time because I was deciding what to make for a quick dinner and of course once they saw the package they wanted to try out the new KD Smart!

I cooked it up, just like you cook up regular classic Kraft Dinner. I noticed the colour wasn't your typical brigher "cheddar" orange, Kraft Dinner Smart vegetable has more of a darker orange colour and the noodles are a little smaller. The box says it makes 3 servings but with my two kids one box makes two servings which is alright, just double up for more!

The kids enjoyed eating in the new bowls, they each chose a specific colour out of the four. I thought they would notice the slightly darker pasta but they didn't and gobbled it right up! When they finished eating I asked my oldest what she thought about it and she said it was good. When I told her there was 1/2 a serving of vegetables in the noodles she just ate she was surprised and said she didn't notice a difference and enjoyed it as much as the regular kind I normally prepare for them.

Since they only wanted the KD Smart for supper we topped it off with a scoop of ice cream and mixed fruits for dessert. Overall I am pleased with the Kraft Dinner Smart, kids get what they need from a food they already love. I will most likely be buying it in the future.

  1. I don't have kids but I don't think I would notice much of a difference between the KD Smart and Classic KD.

  12. My oldest won't eat any form of macaroni (weird, eh?) but I don't think my youngest would notice. He will eat macaroni and cheese in any form!
