9/5/12

Tuesday morning kids in the neighborhood headed out the door to begin another school year! The kids were excited although little guy only had his JK orientation today, he starts full-days on the bus on Thursday!

Speaking of bus, we had a little issue with ours. They had the kids scheduled on the same bus for pick up and drop off from school except they had them at different stops. Unless I could teleport myself somehow to two places at once this was not going to work so I called and made other arrangements to have them off at the same place.

Our first morning went well considering as hard as we tried we could not manage to keep our 8:30pm bedtime ritual at all over the course of the summer. Sleepy heads did well though, had everything organized from clothes to lunches and bags at the door the night before. The bus was on time to pick up and the weather was pretty mild.

During the afternoon I took little guy for his orientation. Preggo me walking with a four year old who wobbles, bobbles and pulls while holding hands - we made it just in time. Little guy was greeted by the teachers assistant, she seems to know her stuff when talking to four year olds! She made little guy make eye contact which made him pay attention and he introduced himself properly. That's exactly how you have to get my boys attention too!

The teacher seems nice, very soft spoken. She asked me some questions about little guy and any concerns I may have. Of course my main one was the potty area which she said is no problem, just send spare clothes. Hopefully he has a clean first day. Little guy didn't want to leave when we had to go. I had about 30 minutes to get home and take a breather before going to get K at her *temporary* bus stop.

Of course when I left with little guy from home to get K it was pouring cats and dogs outside. I brought a umbrella but it didn't help because the wind was gushing everywhere plus little guy tripped and fell on the way soaking the knees of his pants. What an afternoon we had!

Despite the rain K said she had a good first day and was happy to see her friends. She told me she thinks it's going to be a good year and you know what? I think so too! Now, we wait for our second first day of school on Thursday when little guy becomes an official Junior Kindergartner!

How was your first day back?

  4. Aw! He looks happy. I love people like the T a who make the proper steps to get attention. My dd even at 11 years old still needs you to touch her shoulder so she hears you. Funny.

  5. Our first day was good overall. We are only in SK so half days. I was starting to panic when he was 20 minutes late getting home but he got home safely and was so excited to tell me about his day.

  6. I love reading the back to school stories. While I don't have any of my own yet (kids are only 2.5), we will and I hope they're as positive as yours.

  8. We had our JK orientation today and it went great! Tomorrow is our big day though! I say "our" because I'm pretty sure Mom and Dad's anticipation is greater than our son's, lol.

  9. Aww, your kids are cuties! Our first day back is today. I took him this morning and he made me come right to his classroom. I wasn't allowed to leave but snuck out just after 9:10a. Kiddo has two teachers again this year (one in the AM, one in the PM) but he said the one teacher is away or sick so he gets the other one all day today. That is about all he told us so far (during his lunch break).

  11. Good luck tomorrow on his first day! Glad your daughter is being positive right from the get go. We too had to walk home in the rain on Tuesday, wasn't pleased! Held off all day, until it was time for pickup.
