As our kids head off to school each morning, we worry about how they will do during their day. We worry about the food they will be eating and making sure they have the proper tools to learn. We are fortunate to have these simple worries. Not have to worry about our children ever leaving for a day of school, not have to worry about what we will be putting on our tables that night to feed them or where we may sleep that night.

As sad as that scenario sounds, it's an unfortunate truth for over half of today's children in third world countries. These children do not have access to essential services like education, basic health care, clean water and proper food. The simple things we often take for granted are the things children and their families must wake up to not having, every day of their lives.

According to UNICEF, in Senegal alone, 3 out of 5 kids don't have access to education. In today's world, no matter where you live, having an education is an essential part of life. Without it there is no hope of employment, no hope of income and no hope for food on the table to survive. It is a vicious cycle.

This is why there are great brands like NIVEA Canada who has partnered with Plan Canada - under the motto "We Care & Connect" - to help fund an education project in Senegal. Both share a goal of improving access to education by constructing, rehabilitating and equipping classrooms and providing better qualified teachers and learning materials. NIVEA Canada and Plan Canada are working as a team to help break the cycle of poverty.

It's easy for you and me to help make a difference too! Visit the 'NIVEA & Plan Canada' tab on the NIVEA Canada Facebook page at Facebook.com/NIVEACanada. You can donate to the cause through the donate button and also share the word with your own Facebook friends! The more of you who visit, the more this will benefit a wonderful cause and the lives of children across the world!

  13. I think the initiative is important because there are many things we take for granted in our community (food, water, shelter, education) while in other parts of the world, these are often a luxury. Everyone should have access to these.
