There are all kinds of subscription boxes found on the web. These special boxes can be purchased as a gift or for yourself and every month you receive specific items depending on your box. I have reviewed different ones here on AME over the years. For example some offer products for moms and babies, others for men's products, beauty products, snacks and even pet products.

Personally I think these types of boxes make wonderful surprise gifts for loved ones or if you want to treat yourself to something different. Besides, who doesn't like getting surprise gifts of something they enjoy delivered right to their door!

Canadian owned, Gettin' Lacquered offers monthly gift boxes for nail enthusiasts! Often nail polish and nail art tools can be expensive for Canadians. I know this from having a bit of an addiction to new nail stuff, if you want quality you will pay for it.

The team at Gettin' Lacquered choose the best of the best from brand name polishes like Essie, China Glaze and Seche to bring nail enthusiasts a monthly box to get their polish on for less than what one would pay at a drug store or online shop.

In each box you will find five items including a mix of nail polishes plus nail art tools, decals or nail wraps to beautify your DIY mani! For $19.99 a month with no obligation to commit to any subscriptions, Gettin' Lacquered is every nail polish lovers dream gift.

I was sent over some samples of what Gettin' Lacquered has to offer!

Everything came in a small box, inside was a nice post card from Gettin Lacquered and everything was wrapped up in delicate paper. The polishes were each in a little bag, reminded me of party surprise bags but with way better surprises! ;-)

I love the picks that were included in this box: Thistle Do by China Glaze, from their new neon collection. It's a nice bright colour, something to make a POP with this summer. Chills & Thrills by Essie, a cool blue tone to change things up. Also included was a handy nail art brush, two little bags of rhinestone decals and Seche Vite quick dry top coat to get my lacquer on!

I really like Chills & Thrills by Essie. A bright, popping blue colour! I added some China Glaze `Thisle Do` dots using a dotting tool I have. The blue and neon pink look great together, even with something simple like this.

China Glaze `Thistle Do`is a a bright but soft colour, great for the upcoming sunny, summer weather! It almost reminds me of a neon princess pink, especially with the added purple rhinestones!

I like boxes like Gettin` Lacquered as it allows me to add on to my ever growing polish collection. I love to mix and match different colours and styles!

On top of offering the best products in their boxes, Gettin' Lacquered also offers great deals. For the month of May, Gettin' Lacquered let YOU pick a special colour and the rest a surprise! Can't wait to see what the May box brings!

It's super easy to get started! Gettin Lacquered is based in Canada and only ships within Canada at the moment. Check out the website and get your polish on!

Don't forget to show some love by liking the Gettin' Lacquered Facebook page and follow @gettinglacquered on Twitter! :)

My daughter will be turning ten years old over the summer season. Ten years old means she is an official tween and loves doing what the most tween girls do - painting her nails.

I have always had a love for doing my nails too. It's uplifting and I can get creative with nail polish and all kinds of neat nail art accessories. My daughter took an interest as well from a young age, more so as she is getting older.

I am careful when it comes to what kind of nail polish I allow her to wear. It's not so much the polish itself but the removal of it. You need nail polish remover or sometimes acetone depending what type of nail polish. I prefer kid friendly type polishes for her.

Recently we were introduced to Suncoat Girl, nail polish created especially for kids. Suncoat Girl offers safe nail polish for young girls. These polishes are water-based and environmentally friendly. Suncoat Girl polish won't dry out or damage nails, are virtually odour-free and non-flammable. For kids aged 3 years and older, Suncoat Girl polish lasts a few days and simply peels off. No need for nail polish remover.

My daughter began her nail polish collection with other kid-safe nail polish and now she has Suncoat Girl colours to add to her collection for the summer! They have a wide variety of colours and we were sent four different ones to try out for ourselves - Mermaid blue, Princess purple, Sunflower and Forever fuchsia.

Unlike traditional nail polish, kid-safe nail polish always tends to be a little runny but with two coats you can create pretty, colourful nails. It takes about as long as any other polish to dry, about ten minutes.

What I like about this nail polish besides the fact that its kid-friendly is that its washable! My daughter went to shake the bottle of Sunflower forgetting she had unscrewed the cap and it flew all over the counter. It was an easy clean up with a warm, soapy wash cloth. I can trust she can do her own nails without staining anything and she likes having her very own Suncoat Girl polish!

You can find Suncoat Girl nail polish online at NailPolishCanada.com! Don't forget NPC offers FREE shipping in Canada, so go ahead and shop! :)

We spent most of the past long weekend and after school this week outside in our yard enjoying the sunny days. The kids play with the puppies and spend some time on the trampoline, burning the last of their daily energy. Hubby has been down for the count with a pulled back the past couple of days.

I was kept busy with everything and decided to do a quick yard clean up, I check for any dog surprises and debris that may have been missed. The last thing you need when you have kids and animals is someone stepping in something or hurting themselves to ruin a nice afternoon.

I was surprised to see the little buds from last week in full bloom. It's amazing how a little warm weather, rain and sunshine can bring things back to life after a long, cold winter season. I want to go to Canadian Tire or Home Depot, like I said and get some new soil and flowers to add to the violets. Maybe some red, orange or yellows in there to brighten it up.

Our tree now has those pretty flowers I was telling you about and I found out for sure it is an Apple tree, but I'm sure you already knew that! My neighbour has been living here for over 35 years and she had some in her yard before she said but they got infested with bugs and had to be removed. I think that may be why the apples don't really grow from ours (they are small and I wouldn't eat them or cook with them). At least the blooming flowers make for a pretty picture while they last.

Back in the little garden more purple violets have bloomed as well! I like those in gardens because they seem to have a habit of reproducing from one plant to many.

Unfortunately I don't think those wild flowers we planted are going to come up any time soon. Either the ground we planted them in was no good or they got drenched with last weeks rain. Oh well, if we are lucky they might come up by the end of summer or next spring. I never said I had a green thumb! ;-)

There still isn't much grass in the yard. We tried growing some in previous years but with the dogs it's hard to keep them off the grass when they go outside. Daizy (the dog not the flower, hence the spelling) likes to do laps around the yard, especially when there is mud outside.

Another, oh well. If we owned this place it would be a different story but we rent so technically landscaping isn't our job but we do keep up the yard. I just like to add at least flowers though, I need something! ;)

I remember my mom planting tulip bulbs along the side of our country home when I was quite young. I don't remember if they survived. We had Lilac bushes surrounding the front yard, those I remember always picking and being told not to. I guess that's where my kids get all the flower picking from!

My flowers may be nothing compared to some gardens I've seen pictures of but they are pretty, they make me smile and they are surviving in my little garden! ;-)

I really like handmade things. Crafts, trinkets and jewlery. It's artistic, creative and most of the time unique. I often find myself stopping at handcrafted kiosks in the mall and checking out the goods, particularily things like necklaces and earrings. The internet is a great place to shop hand made too especially with shops like Etsy at your fingertips.

When I attended the BConnected Conference in April, a couple of giveaway prizes handed out to attendees (thanks to Sandy from Canadian Blog House) were really nice wire jewlery by Heather Boyd. She's an artist located in Montreal, Quebec.

She has some really nice pieces on her Etsy store like brooches, necklaces, earrings and custom cake toppers. Heather Boyd Wire all started out with handmade jewlery sold on the streets of montreal and twenty years later she and her husband are creating beautiful wire art sold around the world through their Etsy shop.

Seeing the really nice computer brooch one of the conference attendees won, I had to check out what else Heather had up on her Etsy shop. I immediately loved the Hashtag/At symbol earrings! Really cool for a blogger or social media enthusiast like me, so I ordered a pair. I couldn't resist!

Heather is very nice, she messaged me to let me know I had the option of beads on my earrings so I told her which kind I would like! My earrings were shipped out in less than 24 hours of ordering too! Shipping was fast and I had my earrings in a matter of a couple of days.

I really like them, the material used does not irritate my skin (which I am known for when it comes to wearing fine metals) and the artwork is stellar!

If you're looking for a nice gift for someone or even yourself, check out Heather Boyd WireRight now through June 15th save 20% off your purchase with special coupon code: AMotherhoodBlog

Enjoy!

Win it!

Since I love my earrings so much I am giving away a Computer Brooch thanks to Heather! One luck AME reader has the chance to win this gorgeous Computer Brooch by filling out the entry ballot below by June 6th to be eligible!

Have you ever tried dry shampoo before? Just in case you don't know what dry shampoo is, it's a product created to give the effect of fresh, clean hair without washing every single day.

I typically wash my hair every second to third day and to revive my hair in between I usually just wet it, maybe run a quick hair dryer or flat iron on days I want to leave it down or just put it up in my typical "mommy pony tail" do on the go.

I had always wondered about dry shampoos - how they work and what the result would be. They come in powdered and spray forms. Some of my favourite brands just came out with dry shampoos to fit most hair type needs and I am excited to be trying them out on behalf of P&GMoms!

Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Intense Blonde's is great for colour treated blonde's (hello!) to help keep in that light golden pigment while washing away unnecessary oils. There is also Vidal Sassoon Pro Series rich darks for those with darker hair who want to avoid white residue when using a dry shampoo.

Pantene Blowout Extend Dry Shampoo, extends the life of your hair style and gives it a boost between washes. This one is nice because when I style my hair I take my time to do it only to have it go flat the next day. This is almost like a dry shampoo booster to help volumize.

Herbal Essences Naked Dry Shampoo has 0% parabens for a more natural clean feeling. It allows for movable, bouncy locks without all the extras and a fresh scent to refresh your hair, naturally.

There are different ones to choose from depending on what you're looking for and what type of hair you have. You can find your dry shampoo on the appropriate brand websites above.

My favourite of these three would have to be the Herbal Essences Naked Dry Shampoo because it makes my hair feel very soft and clean. Although the Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Intense Blonde's and Pantene Blowout Extend Dry Shampoo are equally good, I like the fact that Herbal Essences leaves my hair feeling more natural.

Would I continue to purchase any of these dry shampoos? Most likely, overall I am impressed by the products and I would definitely recommend them to women like me who don`t wash their hair every single day of the week but want some refreshment in between.

Plus-a-bil-ities \ noun: a desire to give more when receiving more

We are big Tide fans in our house. We are a busy family of five plus pets so dirt and stains are often unavoidable. Tide has been saving our clothes from nasty stains and dirt for years, it has certainly developed into our go-to laundry detergent.

I for one am excited to hear about the new Tide Plus collection! Giving you a Tide for every job! The Tide Plus collection brings more of what we love (an amazing clean), plus benefits of Febreze scent and Downy softness.

The Tide Plus collection introduces six new laundry detergents to the Tide family including Tide Febreze Sport, Tide Plus Ultra Stain Release, Tide Plus Bleach Alternative, Tide Plus Febreze Freshness, Tide Plus Downy, and Tide Plus Coldwater Clean!

To celebrate the launch this new collection, Tide is taking the Plusabilities to the next level by encouraging Canadians to fling out the old and bring in the new.

A Tide truck will be visiting family attractions in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver to pick up gently used clothing to donate to not for profit partner, Good Will. Unfortunately this program is not happening here in Ottawa but I thought some of my readers would like to know who are from the cities the truck will be visiting.

By donating to Good Will during these Tide donation events, you're not only dr cluttering your home but you are giving still usable clothing a second chance by being someone else's "something new". This is a great way to teach your family values like giving back to the community and the ripple effect or Plusabilites behind doing good.

Giving your families clothes a second chance can:

- Give someone confidence when going to a job interview.

- Make a kid smile going to school with new duds.

- Enable skills development, and employment and work experience for those who face employment barriers.

- Support community driven programs with the money raised by sales at Good Will shops.

As a thank you, people who drop off donations will receive a Tide Plus coupon booklet so that they can experience a new kind of clean.

What gives mom the energy to be all she can be and some? Is it a special food, drink, exercise routine, vitamins or maybe all of the above?

Taking care of our families is important but so is taking care of yourself. Making sure you get what you need from good food to exercise can be difficult when you have a growing family who always have one need or another to fill.

By the end of the day I know all I want to do is just put my feet up and relax without anyone needing or wanting anything, at least for an hour.

What energizes Mom? Maybe you energize first thing in the morning with a relaxing Yoga session or heading out to the gym before work. Maybe you energize with a hot cup of coffee or maybe it's as simple as a favourite morning smoothie.

Orange Naturals helps us take the busy out of taking care of ourselves. Since being introduced to Orange Naturals, Women's ND shakes have become part of my daily steps toward taking better care of myself.

Because my early mornings are so rushed with getting the kids up, ready and out the door for school, I usually enjoy a mid-morning fruity shake or smoothie (depending on my mood) when I get back from bus drop offs. Berries or bananas are usually my go-to because we always have them in the kitchen.

May brings the perfect smoothie weather, it's (for the most part) nice and sunny outside. Nothing like sitting out on the deck to work with a good ND shake in hand. There are some great recipes to try on the Orange Naturals Blog like ones seen on the Global Morning Show!

What I like about Orange Naturals ND Shake mix is that you can make virtually any type of smoothie or shake you like and get the nutrients your body needs. Plus it comes in chocolate or vanilla flavours. The whole family can enjoy ND shakes as they are also available in formulas especially for men and kids too.

Orange Naturals will be offering a newsletter for all their customers and fans! Get great tips and tricks plus see some great content featuring Orange Naturals Mom Ambassadors!

Even though my annual flower garden is small, I take pride in the plants and flowers that do grow in our back yard. May is the month when everything has finally had time to dry up and things are starting to grow. It won't be long before they are all in bloom.

Our crab apple (I think) tree is almost ready to bloom, you can see all the green buds all over the branches. They bloom into pretty pink or white flowers and they only last a couple of weeks if we are lucky. Usually a rain storm will blow them all away so there is a small window there to take some pretty pictures.

I am happy the purple violets keep growing every year. They were my grandmothers favourites and have also become mine. They remind me of her. When I was a little girl I remember being at her house. My grandparents lived in a small bungalow. The back room always shed a lot of light and my grandmother kept some of her potted plants there, one of which was a deep purple violet plant. I used to love going in that room and just looking at the plant, so pretty.

When it was sunny out on Monday, I went outside with the kids after school and started raking up the debris from my little garden. K and I were talking about what other kinds of flowers besides our violets that we could maybe buy in a couple of weeks to add some colour to the dirt. She reminded me that we still had the seeds of hope that we got in our We Day bags. Great idea, we chose a special spot for each leaf and planted them. Doing something good and growing something beautiful.

I can't wait to see what the following weeks will bring to our garden!

Between balancing the kids, working at home or in the office, running errands and taking care of the every day can be give us the challenge and being a mom can sometimes make us sweat. It's all part of life but did you know stress sweat can be a different concern? Stress sweat results in sweating an average of 30 times more than normal and it has a tendancy to smell more than normal.

Being an introvert by nature sometimes causes me to stress a little more than I should, I especially sweat when I get nervous or embarrassed. With three kids it happens more often than not come to think of it. Nothing like wondering if those around you notice. Although I can't always predict when these types of situations happen, I can prevent the extra sweat with Secret Clinical Stress Response antiperspirant.

Worrying about body odour caused by sweat is a thing of the past since being introduced to Secret Clinical series of antiperspirants - 100% confidence guarantee.

Secret Clinical Strength gives you 4X protection from stress sweat and comes in a variety of different kinds for different needs. New Secret Clinical Stress Response features a unique technology to combat the three main sources of sweat: Stress, physical activity and heat. It`s available in two great scents, Calming Aloe and Serene Citrus. It effectively prevents and minimizes odor caused by sweat.

How it works is instead of just masking smell it traps the odour, neutralizes it and replaces it with a fresh scent. It also provides prescription strength wetness protection and conditions your skin for extra comfort.

I have tried many different brands of deodrant and antiperspirants over the years and I can honestly say that Secret`s Clinical Stress response formuals really do work. You put it on and pretty much forget about it for the next 24 hours plus the invisible stick doesn`t leave any nasty residue on me or my clothes.

You can find Secret Clinical Stress Response and other Secret Clinical series antiperspirants for about $10.99 at your local drug store or where personal hygene products are sold. Learn more on the official Secret website

This Mother's Day the kids gifted me with hand made crafts and cards from school. Very sweet, I always love them. My son gave me a special gift, a list of things about me, his mom. It was rolled up and tied with a ribbon like a scroll. He was so proud to give me this gift!

I untied the ribbon and unrolled the yellow paper. I began to read it out loud and couldn't help but laugh. It was thoughtful. I learned a lot about myself that I didn't know, read on to find out what he said!

My Moms name is: Alyssa
She is _100_ years old.
Her hair is brown, she has brown eyes like me.
Her favourite colour is rose.
My moms best friend is Dad, his name is Patrick.
My Mom is special because I love her.
Her favourite food is chicken noodle soup.
My Mom always says "I Love You".
I love my mom because she is nice and helps me tie my new shoes.
Love Dominic
There you have it, me through the eyes of my six year old boy. I'm 100 years old with "brown" hair and I like chicken noodle soup. I love it because it's honest and comes from his young mind. I know he took a guess with some of the answers he gave but he did get some right, you can probably guess which ones.

No matter what they bring home, it's sure to make me smile and that is the best gift a mom can get! :)

"Roses are red, violets are blue. You're my mom and I love you"

Those were the words written inside a hand made Mother's Day card from my nine year old girl.

As the kids get older they don't come as often but I am the sentimental type who enjoys hand made cards and crafts the kids make. They always draw and colour pictures, that's different. I'm talking about special occassion crafts they make especially for me.

Making mom smile is always a great gift to give.

Pretty card from my nine year old daughter

Pretty Sun Catcher from my six year old son xo

Happy Mother's Day to all the hard working moms out there. Enjoy your day, enjoy your children and celebrate all the good that makes you "Mom".

With Mother's Day just around the corner, I find myself thinking about what exactly it means to be a mom. We are given the gift of raising children, of having a family and selflessly go about our new found job the moment our newborn baby is placed in our arms, this role is for the rest of our lives.

To me, being a mom means having a 24/7 job, one without breaks or sick days. A role that requires patience at times and sometimes can be complicated but more often than not makes me smile. At the end of the day, motherhood brings us the reward of gifts from the heart. Our kids are always thinking of us, whether they show it or not. We are their super heroes, the ones they look up to and the ones they learn most from.

We are rewarded through pictures they draw, "Special for you mom" and with simple compliments "You make the best dinner" even though its just left overs or what about those special good-night hugs after a story you've read 100 times. Our kids know how to brighten even the darkest days, they truly are our sunshine. They give us moments we want to save and forever look back on, the best gift a mom could get.

As moms we always want to capture family moments and we are usually the ones behind the lenses, taking picture after picture of our most special experiences. Canon shares a special Mother's Day surprise, kids get to be the ones behind the lenses, capturing a special moment just for mom. Giving her the best gift ever.

Mother's Day is something special and it doesn't have to come from a store. It doesn't even have to come in the shape of a pre-written sentimental card. Mother's Day is always the most special when it comes from the heart.

Check out this cute video below and make sure to have some tissue handy...Happy Mother's Day Mom's!

Our family has been temporarily extended by seven...

These adorable little puppies were born to our female chihuahuah Mia on April 1st. Five females and two males who won't be much bigger than 4-5 pounds full grown. It has been a busy month helping mama Mia take care of them, imagine having to nurse seven babies at the same time? That's a lot of work for one small dog but she did it.

Now they are getting older and already beginning weening from mama. It won't be long before they are more independent, playing and learning things only puppies can learn.

We have nick names for them but nothing solid because we can't keep them forever. They will be going to new homes when they are old enough but for now we are enjoying the experience of having these puppies in our family.

Puppy Love is a lot of work but it also bring a lot of smiles.

DIY manicures have become somewhat of a regular hobby of mine, I always like finding new ways to do my nails. A few months back I was searching around the web for some nail art inspiration, I came across Nail Apparel. An up and coming Canadian nail decal shop that specializes in water-slide nail decals for pretty much every occasion!

Nail Apparel offers decals for holidays, cartoon characters, favourite fashion brands, icons, TV shows and many more for only $4 a sheet of 28 decals, $2 shipping. You can also have custom ones made and custom false nail sets are available as well!

What a cool idea instead of nail stickers for something different. Use your favourite nail polish paired with Nail Apparel's decals for a fun new look to celebrate your favourite things.

Julie, who runs Nail Apparel was kind enough to send me three complimentary sets - One for my city's hockey team, one for our favourite TV show and one for my love of social media plus she even threw in some extras like Hello Kitty and Smurfs among other characters which my daughter was excited about!

Top coat, polish and decals are all you need to get started with simple nail art! I used my Maybelline Colorshow Porcelain Party and First & Last by China Glaze for the base and top coats.

It was hockey season :)

The print of the decals are great quality, I really like the Ottawa Sens ones. I did my nails for a hockey game, even if we were watching it at home! Go SENS Go! These decals are basic to apply following the directions included.

Apply (and dry) your favourite nail polish, lighter colours work best for most decals but you can be the judge and match them up to fit what you need. Choose the right size decal depending on your nails and apply by soaking the decal and sliding it off onto your nail. Flatten out any air bubbles and allow to dry, brush a layer or two of top coat and you're done when it's dry.

Please excuse the amateur polish job
but the decals turned out great!
Voila! Unique nail decals! It does take some time to do a great job (unlike mine) but they look really neat! These are only one time use (unless you apply to reusable artificial nails) but with the right polish and top coat, these can last a while plus they are only $4 a sheet. These decals can also be used with Gel polish and artificial nails, perfect for nail art enthusiasts! I look forward to see what Nail Apparel has to come! :)

Thank you Julie for introducing us to your fantastic decals from Nail Apparel!

Talking summer already? Yeah, I know. It has been nothing close to summer-like weather lately with all the rain we have been getting but we are in May now and it's one season closer to my favourite of the year - summer.

May is supposed to be our month of sunny skies and pretty flowers blooming. April showers seem to have come a bit late but it's still mid-spring nonetheless. It's never too early to start getting ready for the upcoming summer fun months!

The rainy weather doesn't stop Joe Fresh from brightening everyone's day and making sure they have what they need for the first official unofficial summer-like celebration with the May long weekend coming up in a few weeks.

May long weekend is celebrated by people heading to their annual camping ground to get everything ready, heading to the cottage to clean up the winter leavings and celebrating out on the deck in the back with a big family BBQ weekend to take it all in.

For us, it's a four day weekend with the kids off school the Friday and the holiday Monday. Weather permitting, we set up the BBQ for the first time and have a family meal out on our deck. Usually by that time our yard has had time to dry, be cleaned up, trampoline set up for the kids and possibly some flowers in bloom.

Whatever you and your family decide to do, be dressed for it with Joe Fresh. We all know Joe Fresh offers great deals on everyday attire for the whole family, for every season. Get ready for sunnier weather with accessories to match your outfit from Joe Fresh. From floppy hats and sandals to totebags and fluffy beach towels, you will love what Joe Fresh has in store for your upcoming summer fun!

5/4/14

It has been five years today since I published my first post here on AME. When I began this blog I didn`t know very much about the blogging world. I knew it existed, I knew there were others with a passion like mine but I didn`t know the depth of it. Twitter was a great kick start, finding like minded people, fellow moms and fellow bloggers. It was like stepping into a whole new realm of Internet world. Shortly after signing up for the micro-blogging, social media site - A Motherhood Experience was born.

This has since been my space on the web, a place to share the ups and downs of motherhood with other moms who may be thinking or going through the exact same thing. It has always been a place to express myself, leave a part of myself in thoughts. Perhaps in the future if the world wide web still exists, my children can read a piece of their past.

It has been more than I had imagined in the past five years. I have had success with my blog and I have had failure and like everything else in life I have learned from it all and continue learning every day. I have made connections with some of my favourite brands and have had the opportunity to do things I couldn't have done without the doors my blog has opened. Above all I have made many friends. People who I may or may not have had the opportunity to meet face to face but have touched my life in some way to be considered having a special place in my heart.

To me, AME is more than just another Mommy Blog. A Motherhood Experience is a special place on the Internets. From my fellow bloggers who motivate each other and have shown me the blogging world is its own special community by itself, to readers who keep coming just to see if there`s a new funny story or giveaway, you are the ones (besides my family) who inspire me to continue on. Inspire me to continue to do what I love and love what I do. I am a blogger and proud to be.

You`d think after five years I would have organized some kind of celebratory giveaway but once again, I completely forgot until about a week ago and well there just wasn`t any time to come up with anything good. If you haven`t already, you can head over to the giveaway section and enter some current giveaways!

So here`s a post or toast if you will to five years of A Motherhood Experience and to the next five, Happy Blogiversary AME!
