10/25/16

Mornings are one of the busiest times of the day in our house. The kids get up, get dressed (thanks to setting their clothes out the night before to avoid the "I don't have any socks" outcry.), and eat breakfast.

On more than one occasion, if we are running late we will grab a quick bowl of dry cereal with milk. Cue the "mom guilt" setting in knowing we could be doing so much better to give my family a healthier start to the day starting with breakfast. It really is the most important meal of the day.

Big breakfasts can be time-consuming and let's face it, not everybody is a happy morning person who wants to start cooking before their first cup of coffee. Quaker makes it easy with an assortment of Oatmeal cereals, hot and cold that can be prepared in delicious and easy breakfast recipes the whole family can enjoy.

Pumpkin Pie Oatmeal

Warm flavours of a holiday dessert favourite come together in this creamy breakfast oatmeal.

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes
Makes: 4 servings

Ingredients:

2 cups (500 mL) Quaker® Quick Oats
3 1/4 cups (800 mL) milk
3 tbsp (45 mL) honey or brown sugar
3/4 tsp (4 mL) pumpkin pie spice
1/4 tsp (1 mL) salt
1/2 cup (125 mL) pumpkin purée
1/3 cup (75 mL) vanilla Greek yogurt
1/4 cup (60 mL) toasted chopped pecans

Directions:

In large saucepan set over medium heat, stir together oats, milk, honey, pumpkin pie spice and salt. Bring to boil; reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes.

Stir in pumpkin purée and heat through. Divide evenly among 4 bowls; top with dollop of yogurt and sprinkle with pecans.

Tip: Top with dried fruit, such as raisins or cranberries if desired.

Through the power of Quaker Oats, we can once again own the morning or at least breakfast time. From hot cereal to cereal bars and more, you can head off on your day with peace of mind that the family is off with a belly full of goodness. It's the little things that make our morning moments. #SpoonDrop

  1. I love when I can get up in the mornings, I wake the kids and head down stairs to start my day. I enjoy my morning tea, and watch Breakfast TV. Rush out the door. Drop the kids at school and rush to work - so that I can enjoy my bowl of oatmeal at my desk! #SpoonDrop

  33. My best #SpoonDrop Moment is when we have a successful school drop off in the morning - kids have had a nutritious breakfast; kids dressed in clean, appropriate clothes for the day's weather/activities; lunches/snacks in backpacks; homework, forms library books etc in backpacks; hair and teeth all brushed; appropriate footwear on; and we make it to school before the bell rings! Then I can come home and relax with my coffee and my breakfast before starting my day's work.
