Halloween is supposed to be a fun time but many younger kids can easily get scared. I know, we have one in the house who doesn't like anything scary but doesn't want to miss out on the Halloween fun. This year we are doing something a bit different to celebrate Halloween, without too much scary.

Get ready for "The Great Big Boo" making its way to a city near you for a fun-filled family night celebrating all things Halloween! If your kids like music, characters, candy, and fun you won't want to miss this show.

"The Great Big Boo" will be touring Cineplex theatres across the country this fall stopping in Ottawa at the Scotiabank Theatre Friday, October 27, Saturday October 28th and Sunday October 29th.

About "The Great Big Boo”

Corus Entertainment, Cineplex and Wondersee Entertainment have partnered to launch “The Great Big Boo!”, a 50 minute non-scary live show that follows the story of Zoe and Justin who sing and dance their way through Boo Alley on a quest to save Halloween, meeting larger-than-life characters along the way. The show features a dynamic original score and spectacular dance numbers. After each show, the audience will be invited to meet the stars and join them for a fun, trick-or-treat event.

Kids ask the darndest things at the darndest times; usually, during tv time my kids can do more talking than watching. With curious minds, they come to me while streaming an episode of Justin Time  wondering “How far away is the moon?”, while the StoryBots will have them thinking up all sorts of questions like “How do airplanes fly?” and “Why is the sky blue?”. I am supposed to also be an encyclopedia of knowledge, answering all of my children's burning questions about the world around them. Three kids and this many questions, mama needs some help sometimes.

I may not be as knowledgeable as an encyclopedia but thanks to good old Google, I can at least pretend, for the kids. I don't know how my parents did it before the internet. Whether it’s the new way they’re learning math or they’re asking these science questions that seem much more sophisticated than their age (thanks, Magic School Bus Rides Again), I can keep these talkative family TV time moments intact with Google in the palm of my hand.

What's on Netflix this month?

For the little ones, new episodes of Word Party are now streaming on Netflix, and don’t miss the launch of Super Monsters on October 13th just in time for Halloween. For the older kids, blast into action with new seasons of Skylanders Academy and Voltron: Legendary Defender

Right in time for Halloween, the highly anticipated Stranger Things 2 when the return to Hawkins - and the Upside Down - comes to Netflix on October 27. I can't wait to watch!

Don't forget to keep an eye out on the AME Facebook page for a special Stranger Things giveaway! ;-)

Happy Streaming!

We are already almost a month into the school year and I have to say, the laundry monster is still rearing its ugly head. Although we are out of the baby stages of "50 loads a day", our kids still give us a run for our money when it comes to dirty clothes. As the kids get older the stains and messes seem to evolve.

With glue and sparkles from Kindergarten through juice and food spills of elementary and junior high, making sure their school clothes stay neat and clean can be somewhat of a battle if I'm not prepared with the ultimate laundry weapon, OxiClean™!

OxiClean™ is the #1 stain fighter brand in Canada. It works on a wide variety of stains getting the toughest ones out the first time.

Pretreating is key for stubborn stains. Hubby works on cars which means grease, nothing gets grease out of clothing. With OxiClean MaxForce Foam Pre-Treater, the greasiest stains get blasted away the first time with its foaming action. You can spray and treat really serious stains up to 7 days!

My daughter loves mustard and sometimes mustard loves her school uniforms. These garments aren't ones we can just go out and replace. If she stains them, OxiClean MaxForce Spray is there to help me save them. It combines 5 types of stain removers to help get toughly dried on stains (like condiments) out the first time!

One thing I dislike is buying white socks or really any white clothing because they never stay white, especially with kids. OxiClean White Revive Laundry Stain Remover whitens 40% better than bleach with powerful whitening and brightening agents that won't damage the clothing getting those whites back to their intended colour the first time!

For those colours use OxiClean Colour Shield Laundry Stain Remover. It has tough stain fighters paired with colour-safe brighteners to guarantee your colours look new and radiant longer.**

We may lose the laundry battle from time to time but we are prepared to fight tough stains with the help of OxiClean!

You can find OxiClean at your local Loblaw or Real Canadian Superstore stores.

** As with any product, always read instructions on the package before use **

Have you taken the OxiClean challenge? Visit www.oxicleanchallenge.ca for your chance to win of eight weekly prizes of OxiClean stain fighters and a grand prize of a laundry room makeover by HGTV’s Sarah Baeumler! Share your own OxiClean results on social media using hashtag #OxiCleanChallenge!

It's that time of year again; the one night everyone can get away with dressing up in a costume and nobody will bat an eyelash. Halloween is only a few more weeks away! We love Halloween at our house! Just like any celebration, it's fun for everyone who is in the spirit of things.

I enjoy digging out the Halloween decorations and decorating the house, carving the pumpkins and helping the kids figure out what they want to be. Usually, the kids are the only ones who dress up but there have been times where the whole family joined in. Like that time I wore hubby's Sons of Anarchy hoodie with my leather boots, did my hair and makeup and went out as a "biker chick".

As each Halloween passes, we see how much the kids have grown and continue to grow. It reminds us that this won't last forever. They won't always want to go out with Mom and dad, why not make this year fun for everyone!

You guessed it, hubby and I will be going out dressed up as a duo. Yes, we will still be the kid's chauffeur, bodyguards, and candy sorters but at least we are prepared to have some spooky fun!

So, what did we choose? Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf; awesome right?!

His wolf costume came with a scary wolf mask, tattered lumberjack shirt, and wolf gloves (pictured above). We shopped a bit and found a big faux wolf tail to go with it. All we need to do now is get an old pair of pants to rip up a bit and voila; we have our big bad wolf!  Just a tip: the costume may scare little kids so make sure you let them know it's you under that mask!

For my costume, Red Riding Hood (I dropped the "little" because I'm 5'9" tall and that just sounds weird). I found a gorgeous (and inexpensive) long red hooded cape. I'll pair it with a red shirt and black pants; I would do a dress but chances are on an October evening, it might be a bit nippy out. I plan to go all out with hair and makeup though! Curling my hair and red lipstick! I'll top off the costume with a wicker basket filled with random props for humour.

Both of our adult costumes cost under $100 together with great Halloween finds from Amazon and using items we already have here at home. We can't wait to make some memories this Halloween!

Do you go out for Halloween? Do you and your kids have your costumes planned out? Stay tuned throughout October for more Halloween fun here on AME!

Thanksgiving is approaching and we are preparing to make another year of family Thanksgiving traditions. When I was growing up we always did Thanksgiving with our grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. The group has dwindled over the years which makes me a little bit sad.

Every year I have a grand idea; giving the old family Thanksgiving another go and celebrating with those closest to us. I want to continue to teach my children the importance of family and being thankful for who and what we have in our lives despite everybody not always being able to be together under one roof. It's never anything over-the-top (my dishes and cutlery are quite plain) but, I can throw together a nice turkey dinner for a special family occasion.

To start off, I want to get a few things to spruce up the house not just for Thanksgiving but for Fall. Maybe a new set of placemats for the dining room table. A few candles and other fall-themed decorations that will look great and can easily be put away.

Speaking of putting away, every year I dig out my turkey pan, turkey baster and other tools I need to start making my family's "dream dinner" a few days before Thanksgiving itself. I hate to be rushed on things meant to be good! We side the turkey with stuffing (sometimes homemade and sometimes not), potatoes and one veggie we can all agree on (string beans, maybe carrots). I like to switch it up from year to year.

One tradition I will never switch up or give up is pie; I love it. I love eating it and I love baking it even though it can be a pain. I am getting new pie pan this year so that should help make some delicious pumpkin and apple pies.

Dinner doesn't always turn out exactly like the picture in my head but when I hear them come back and tell me it was "the best meal ever", even though it's not, that's good enough for me. Afterall, it's the memories we make that count in the end.

What are some of your favourite Thanksgiving holiday traditions?

September is almost over and the season has been changing from summer to fall; I'm loving the changing colours of the leaves. While I do enjoy summertime, I also like fall. There's a crispness in the air which gives me an excuse to wear my favourite sweaters and sip a hot coffee. Speaking of coffee, it's Pumpkin Spice season as well.

Get your aprons on and check out these Pumpkin Spice inspired recipes that'll make your mouth water!

Transformers more than meets the eye...we are all too familiar with the old-school theme song heard in our youth as we enjoyed a lesser-exciting version of one of today's top movie franchises: Transformers.

Transformers: The Last Knight is the 5th movie in the series and probably in my (and others) opinion, the most entertaining thus far. This movie redefines what it means to be a hero.

"Humans and TRANSFORMERS are at war, OPTIMUS PRIME is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of TRANSFORMERS on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); BUMBLEBEE; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock). There comes a moment in everyone’s life when we are called upon to make a difference. In TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT, the hunted will become heroes. Heroes will become villains. Only one world will survive theirs, or ours."

You can find Transformers: The Last Knight on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and Blu-ray 3D Combo Packs are available in stores September 26 (Digital HD released September 12th).

Transformers: The Last Knight will also be available in a 5-movie Blu-ray Collection that includes Transformers, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Transformers: Age Of Extinction.

Birthdays are exciting for kids, almost as magical as Christmas (okay maybe not as magical but close enough). We as parents always want them to have that perfect, special day.

With failed "from-scratch" birthday cakes to Pinterest attempts gone horribly wrong, the pressure of it all can be quite overwhelming. Over three-quarters (that's 82%) of parents agree they wish there was an easier way to make birthdays feel extra special for their kids; without all the hoopla.

Wish granted, no party planner required!

Netflix is giving parents the best birthday gift with the launch of 14 Birthdays On Demand featurettes! Just type "Happy Birthday To You" in your Netflix search and you'll find them!

There are titles for everyone including DreamWorks All Hail King Julien, Barbie, Beat Bugs, DreamWorks Dinotrux, Legend Quest, LEGO Friends, LEGO Ninjago, Luna Petunia, My Little Pony, Pokemon, Project Mc2, Skylanders Academy, DreamWorks Trollhunters and Word Party. Add these to your next birthday party!

We have no birthdays in September but our next celebration will be extra special with these birthday party hacks with Netflix! Party hats, a throne fit for a king, cupcake toppers and more check out the video below for some easy and fun birthday party ideas!

Warning: This post may cause "phantom itching".

Our kids started school this week. If you've got a kid in school for the first time get ready for it; the dreaded L-word could be coming to your house for an unwelcome visit.

Ah the lice letter; a little note tucked away in your child's bag letting you know SOMEONE in the class has a case of the itches and you should check your kids asap!

- Whether you think your child has them or not is to get a good Comb and do a weekly check just in case. You can buy single combs, electric combs or generic plastic combs that will do the trick.

- Comb the hair when it's wet and do it thoroughly, on every head in your home. If you find some on one kid chances are you and their siblings may have picked them up too.

- Myth: Lice like dirty hair! Nope. They like it clean. You like your kid's hair clean too. Try Fairy Tales Repel Shampoo. It smells gorgeous and it repels the little suckers from wanting to make a meal of your kid. They also make a conditioner for extra protection plus this stuff leaves the hair silky smooth. It's probably my new favourite lice prevention kit!

- Preventative Spray is also really good for helping keep them away between shampoo washes.

If you do happen to run into head lice, don't panic. They sound a lot worse than they are. If you google search "head lice" there are tons of informative websites if you aren't educated on the creepy crawlers. Harmless doesn't mean we want them to stay around though! I've heard things can spread like wildfire if not properly taken care of.

You not only have to check and wash all heads in the house but fabrics that were touched by anyone's head as well.

- Make sure to check out your local pharmacy and ask the pharmacist to direct you to the best lice solution treatment they have. Use as directed and follow these tips to help you prevent those unwanted pests from coming back!

- Wash all bedding, towels, pillows, and clothing anyone with lice has been using in the past few days; dry it on high heat. Bag any stuffed animals or other decorative pillows that you can't wash for at least two weeks.

If worse comes to worse and you just can not do it yourself, you can always hire a local service to do the dirty work for you or go see your doctor for some expert advice! :)

It's official: all three kids are in school full-time. I adore my three kids but wow, that was a long summer.

People ask me what I'll do with all of my "free time". What free time? Just because the kids are in school doesn't mean I don't have other obligations (hello blog?) and plenty of productive things (hello blog?) to fill my time with. Plus, I can do it all without the distraction of someone needing a drink, snack or some other thing they REALLY didn't need to bug me for, every five minutes.

Our week began on Tuesday with the older two starting grades 4 and 8. I give them credit for being on the ball when it came to getting back into the swing of things in the morning. It helps to be organized the night before, I told them!

There weren't very many complaints from our oldest two after the first day of school. K couldn't remember her locker combination so we got her an easier lock to handle but that was the height of this weeks drama. Grade 8 is stressful enough without a panic attack at break time. Our boy likes his class, he likes his friends and he likes his teacher. He's always been positive when it comes to school. I hope he keeps that attitude.

Little Miss M started her first year of school on Thursday. That was the scary part; Kindergarten here she comes! She was excited all summer to ride the bus and be able to go to school. She climbed off that bus the first afternoon with a huge smile; she loves kindergarten and I'm so happy about that. One of my worries was her transition from being at home with me full time to being at school with a bunch of strangers all day. Two days in and she had nothing but smiles. That was until she realized it's the weekend and she doesn't get to take the big yellow bus nor go to school for two whole days.

We talked her through her tears and she is looking forward to getting up bright and early on Monday for her first full week of school.

Our first week was tiring but we made it with as few bumps along the way as possible. Now, let's enjoy the weekend and hope week 2 goes as well!

Did your kids start school recently? Share your first week in the comments below! :)

There is only less than a week left until the kids are back to school. I don't know about you but we have everything organized, labeled and ready, even the new first day of school outfits!

We went shopping at Joe Fresh to check out what they had in store. From head-to-toe, you can find some great deals for everyone in the family. Right now you can save 70% off select items in clothing for the whole family.

Our little Miss M is not only starting her first day of school but her first year. We picked out something simple, functional and cute for her with a pink popover dress and matching leggings. We also got her a cute grey pull over top and another pair of leggings to match; she can never have too many pairs of stretchy pants!

Joe Fresh has some really great stuff for boys too! Since the weather is still nice out, for the most part, our son picked an awesome "Dude" t-shirt and shorts set for his first day of grade 4!

Back to school wouldn't be possible without us parents so of course we checked out what was in style for the fall. Hubby found a great pair of mens lounge pants and he bought the entire collection of Joe Fresh men's active hats! Although they do have some lovely women's fashion, I couldn't find anything at that specific I wanted to add to my own collection this time.

Thanks, Joe Fresh for helping us out with our first day of school outfits! You and find these and more great family fashions at your local Joe Fresh store *many are located within a Loblaws grocery store) or online at www.joefresh.com!

The last few weeks of summer have been spent organizing the kids who are heading back to school in just a few days and I've been attempting to reorganize the house a little. I think I'll make better progress once the kids are officially back in the full swing of school. They say to take it one room at a time, that's what I've been doing!

The basement (laundry room) was cleaned and organized in mid-July after our neighbours clogged their basement plumbing causing a flood in ours. Thankfully we are smart enough to use laundry baskets and bins, not leaving things directly on the floor of the laundry room, in the case of accidents just like that.

The kitchen got a redo as far as organizing the cupboards go. The cupboard I keep everything plastic containers had been rampaged by the kids and myself, always in a hurry to grab a container and have to dig around for a matching lid. I ended up recycling a whole bin of just lids. Insane, I know! It looked like something from hoarders. I did order new containers for the upcoming school year. I also got rid of old travel mugs; no matter how well you wash them they're just no good after a while. They get gross, they get tossed and replaced with new ones.

My closet is tiny but I managed to organize it a little better. I tend to do a clothing purge twice a year so that wasn't an issue, there are always spare clothes hangers. I noticed I have gathered a small collection of shoes. I should probably get a closet shoe shelf instead of line them up across already limited space on the closet floor. Bags, wow I have bags! To save space I folded them up neatly and put them all into my large suitcase. If ever I travel again, I'll figure out what to do with those bags like a closet bag hanger; could also be used to organize my row of shoes. Now if I could get hubby interested in sorting through the two boxes of clothes he hasn't touched in years, that would be great!

The linen closet still needs work but my mom gave us some new towels so it gave me an excuse to refold just about everything the kids attempted to fold (aka scrunched up or just shoved in between other towels) in the closet.

The kid's rooms are just, I can't even find a nice word for it; they need a lot of work. I haven't had the chance to get to that part yet but I have big plans for the fall. You know, once they are in school and I can go crazy getting rid of stuff giving their rooms a real do-over. At least I managed to sort through their clothes, donate what doesn't fit and bag the summer clothes for next year.

I'm sure I'm missing a few things on my Fall to-do list!

What do you do to get ready for the upcoming season?
