May is the month we celebrate Mom with Mother's Day but in all honestly, we should be celebrating being a woman in so many ways every day.

Having two daughters and a son, I try to be the best role model I can be; I want to teach them valuable lessons in life while at the same time working to achieve my own goals. Showing them that no matter what, man or woman, a little hard work can actually pay off. Not only do I want my kids to grow up strong and independent, but also be proud of themselves, no matter what they are doing.

I'm proud to be a woman and I have tried to always show it in front of the kids, especially my girls. I love learning new things and showing them that reading is a great way to learn. Sometimes today's distractions can make it hard to get into and finish a good book. I have a few books I've started reading; I'm hoping to finish them someday soon.

My friends at Amazon sent me a Kindle, I know, another gadget? But this is different, I'd never used an eBook reader before, always my iPhone or iPad to do almost everything, including reading. Wow, what a difference. I love my tablet and phone but for reading, the Kindle is much better. It's easy on the eyes, the font size is adjustable and there is no glare, even outside in the sunlight. It's small enough to fit in a purse so I can take it with me for some summer reading. It's really neat to be able to have access to thousands of books in one place. Kindle Highlights lets me recall favourite quotes and passages, for future reference.

Being a member of Amazon, I can purchase books online from my computer, phone or tablet and have them sent right to my Kindle cloud and access them on my Kindle (with Wifi or built-in 3G) or even the Kindle app for iPhone. There are thousands upon thousands of great titles I can add to my library. Plus, it's not a device I'm afraid to share with my oldest daughter who also loves reading!

I typically read both fiction and non-fiction genres. I like a bit of fantasy mixed with my reality. One type of non-fiction I do like to read is life, biography, "how they got there" success story type books.

With my new Kindle Paperwhite loaded with books written by some amazing women, I found one I have been enjoying: Bossy Pants by Tina Fey. It tells life stories from the funny lady herself from the beginning of her life up to becoming an executive producer aka 'the boss'; I personally love her work (30 Rock, SNL, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt etc). In her book, she tells her own personal and very real story about living through life's perfections, and imperfections, going through the ages, stages, ups and downs while achieving her goals - a strong woman, the kind we all want our daughters to grow up to be like.

Another great one which I got for my daughter and myself is Bad Girls Throughout History: 100 Remarkable Women Who Changed the World by Ann Shen which tells the stories of some of the most remarkable women in history and the changes they made for the future of all women, despite what everyone else said or thought. It is an empowering book and great resource for my daughter to learn about some really remarkable women in history.

There are literally thousands of great titles to choose from to fill your Kindle library at Amazon. Here are two other recommendations from best-selling female authors available on Amazon.ca, I can't wait to start reading them myself:

How to Be a Bawse: A Guide to Conquering Life by Lilly Singh
In the Company of Women: Inspiration and Advice from over 100 Makers, Artists, and Entrepreneurs by Grace Bonny

We have been having on again, off again rain here in Ottawa; what better way to change the dampened mood than to go shopping! Almost every season I like to go out and shop for just a few new things to add to what I have already; something to spruce things up a little without creating too much change or digging into my already tight budget.

I've always liked shopping at Sears, especially the sales. Did you hear about the reinvention of Sears Canada? You can now shop The Cut @ Sears (Sears Canada’s new off-price retail business) for brand name fashion and decor at a lot less (30-60% off ticket price)! Sears Canada also debuted its new Sears-label essentials offering Canadians products with the highest quality at amazing prices.

I am not a "dresses and high-heels" type of lady; I do wear maxi dresses or skirts in the summer but my every day is pretty casual. For the amount of time I spend on my feet (aka chasing after my kids or pets) I like to dress semi-casual or athletic (in other words, comfy or "typical mom clothes"), with neutral colours

With my daughters in tow, time was of the essence but I was able to shop the new Sears experience for myself. Our local Sears had a new look and different layout since the last time I was there a few months ago and it was nice to see the Sears label clothing at really affordable prices.

I got myself a new top (I couldn't find the tank tops pictured above so I went with a different kind of top), new yoga pants and a zip-up sweater (gray instead of black) for $100. I know, I could have bought more (trust me, I could have spent the entire day there just browsing) but shopping with kids and all, you understand.  I decided to buy these items because even though the summer weather is hot, I freeze in the evenings. Especially since we spend a lot more time outside or if we go to my parents in law camp or happen to plan something on a not so sunny day. I need the layers and it was great to find something both my style, my size and in my price range.  Oh, I also bought my husband and son some pants, as per their requests. I can see us going back in the near future to grab some great summer items!

Absolutely love my new finds from Sears Canada!

You can find The Cut @ Sears in your local Sears Canada store and online at sears.ca!

We couldn't wait to add this gem to our Blu-Ray collection, xXx: Return of Xander Cage from Paramount Home Media Distribution.

Synopsis: When a group of lethal mercenaries steal a hi-tech weapon that poses a global threat, the world needs superspy Xander Cage (Vin Diesel). Recruited back into action, Xander leads a team of death-defying adrenaline junkies on a mission to kick some ass, save the day, and look dope while doing it.

I remember seeing the original xXx in the cinema back in 2002. I went with a friend and we bought the tickets in advance and went back to their place to grab food and get ready. Well, their grandma was there and saw the tickets on the table; her eyes widened and she thought we were seeing an "adult film". Oh, we all laughed so hard; no grandma, it's an action movie, we promise!

Anyway back to xXx: Return of Xander Cage; This movie has plenty of action, explosions, and tough-as-nails characters. Did I mention besides Vin Diesel, that Ruby Rose is in it? Yes, Stella from OITNB is also an action movie star, I love her! She plays sharpshooter, Adele Wolff on xXx's team.

Hubby and I watched it (I may have already seen it twice); it's pretty much everything you'd want in a Vin Diesel movie. Overall, if you're an action movie fan like we are this movie won't disappoint to add to your own home Blu-ray collection!

You can find xXx: Return of Xander Cage currently Digital HD (itunes/Amazon). It'll be on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD starting May 16th!

Check out the official trailer below!
