My father called me Friday afternoon, he wanted to take me and the kids out to the movies. He had mentioned it once months ago but there were no appropriate movies playing that the kids would really enjoy. D had never been to a movie theater either, we wanted to pick something he would enjoy too!

Since "Dr. Seuss The Lorax" hit theaters Friday night and the kids are fans (as I tweeted here), he figured it would be a nice early Saturday afternoon treat to take them out.

Saturday morning he showed up at around noon, we told the kids we were going shopping so they wouldn't get all excited too early.

As we drove away K asked "are we going to see a movie? I see a paper with The Lorax on it!". The paper was a print out of the show times my dad threw in the back seat of his van. I took the paper, pretended to look at it and told her it was a list of movies to buy on DVD. She was disappointed but bought it none the less :)

She eventually figured it out when we pulled into the cinema parking lot, it was almost empty too. We got to the theater just as the doors were opening. We decided to watch the earliest show time to avoid crowds and late afternoon meltdowns when kids start getting tired.

You can see the excitement in Ks face LOL

Of course being in a movie theatre you aren't "allowed" to have your cell phone on so I obviously didn't take any pictures.

The kids loved the movie from beginning to end, bursting out laughing during the sillier scenes. Seeing the expressions on D's face for his very first movie was priceless as he enjoyed every minute of it. We didn't see the 3D version because we figured since it was D's first movie he may not want to keep the glasses on his face to watch it all but the regular 2D version is great too as the whole movie is created with 3D animation either way!

It's a great movie, humorous and heart-felt. The graphics are vibrant and colourful. The story is simple and follows the basic Dr. Seuss classic with lots of music. It stresses the importance of caring about the environment and to me, I think that's important to teach our kids and this sets a good example - "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not".

If you haven't already seen it, do go! It's a cute family movie - fun for everyone.

After the movie we went to the mall and grabbed some lunch at A&W. On the way out the kids spotted an Ottawa Sens hockey merchandise store and begged grandpa to buy them each something. D got a baseball cap and K got a plush Ottawa Sens toy.

A great day spent in great company, a special day we will always remember every time we watch "Dr Seuss - The Lorax". Thanks again Dad xox :)
