We have had our share of holiday celebrations with little ones around. Simple things like decorating the house and trimming the tree surprise and delight them when they are small. Babies love the twinkling lights and colourful decorations, the gleam in their eyes says it all.
The holiday season can also mean a disruption in their ever-so-sensitive routine with holiday shopping, treat tasting and visiting they aren't quite used to.
PC Organics Baby has you covered with great tips, tricks and advice to help you and your little one get through your first big holiday together and have a jolly time!
Tick Tock!
Keeping regular schedule can be hard but when you have a baby under the age of one year old, it is crucial to enjoying your holidays together. When our oldest was little we mostly went to extended family's houses for holiday celebrations. We would make sure to bring everything she would need like her formula, bottles, toys, diapers, bathtime gear and even a playpark with blankets in case things got late. This allowed her to get what she needed, when she needed and also for us to enjoy ourselves.
Candy Caution.
The holiday season is filled with goodies and treats, make sure to keep an eye on wandering little ones. They could easily slip a hard candy into their mouths. For little ones under the age of two this could pose a choking hazard. Please also, if you are visiting someone with small kids, always ask the parents before you give them any treats!
B.Y.O.S (Bring Your Own Snacks)
Sometimes festive food isn't good for little bellies. Instead, try bringing baby cookies along for your little one to munch on and don't forget, if they have a specific drink - bring it along. Not everybody will think of preparing for the littlest visitors.
Mealtimes Matter.
With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it's easy enough to get off track and lose your schedule. Unfortunately for babies, that isn't a good idea. Try to keep baby as close to their regular schedule especially mealtimes. Offer them their favourite healthy options like President's Choice Organics Strained Butternut Squash or President's Choice Organics Vegetable and Rice Casserole with Chicken.
Deck the halls!
Trimming the tree? You'll want to minimize your decorations like tinsel, glass balls and other breakable ornaments. Also, don't forget to be careful with decorative plants like poinsettias, holly and mistletoe which are poisonous if someone was to try and munch on them. Put them up high or in places your little one won't get at them.
Celebrate!
When they say "they're only little once" believe it. The holidays are most enjoyed by our children. The gleam in their eyes, the smiles on their faces - the genuine excitement the holiday season brings to them is heartwarming. Enjoy these moments, capture these moments and hold onto these moments for as long as you can. Find ways everyone can participate in Christmas at your house from hanging stockings to putting that special ornament on the tree.
However you celebrate, PC Organics and AME wish you and yours a happy and safe holiday season!

ReplyDeleteMy first born, came 4 weeks early and was diagnosed with down syndrome. We spent much of his first year in and out of the hospital with some very long admittings. Christmas was approaching and it didn't look like we were going to get out of the hospital so I decided I would try to make the best of it there. I took all kinds of photos (non digital). Finally as the time got closer with only 3 days before the big day...we were discharged. I ended up losing that roll of film some how and was devastated because there were so many beautiful photos on there. Two years later at Christmas my dad some how managed to find the roll of film amungst a pile of stuff in a box. I cried so much. When I got the roll developed it was the most greatest treasure of all time.
ReplyDeleteMy son lives out west so I skyped with them so I could be with Christmas morning and watch the kids open presents.
ReplyDeleteMy baby was born on December 14 (25 years ago), and now my niece is expecting her baby on December 31.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter just loved the Christmas tree so much and could not get enough of it on her first x-mas. So much so, that she would crawl under and fall asleep there for her naps.
