One of the joys of being pregnant again is shopping for a few new items to wear, starting into my second trimester my pants, shorts and capris for the summer were seemingly more snug at the waste and my tops are becoming shorter too. It's time to start thinking about maternity clothes, without hurting the budget.

Although today's pregnancy fashions are gorgeous, most cost a pretty-penny to be able to afford to wear them for the few months we will need them. I've been looking around online for great places to buy maternity clothes to fit the budget, belly isn't getting any smaller!

SweetPea Maternity brings you trendy maternity clothes for a fraction of what you'd normally expect to pay for Maternity wear. They have a wide varitey of tops, bottoms and dresses to suit anyones needs from casual to more dressy - staying true to their expecting customers with decent prices, lots of sales!

I was super excited when SweetPea Maternity agreed to have me review one of their fashion items here on AME. It was difficult to decide what I wanted to start with, there are so many great choices. I finally decided to go with a sleeveless top, something I can wear while it's still warm out and also pair up with a cardigan come fall.

Taupe Beaded Maternity Tank Top

This top is made super soft and slinky, I love it! This particular top is nice not only because of the detailed beaded pattern on the front but also because it's long. I for one do not like wearing tops that are just long enough to cover my growing belly, I like longer tops in general but especially while expecting. This top comes in Taupe (which I chose) and Ivory. You can buy the Taupe Beaded Maternity tanktop for $23.99 on sale now for just $19.19!

Other items I liked from SweetPea Maternity are the Purple Grey Print Maxi Dress and the Black Maternity Knee-length Pencil skirt. Definitely a shop I can see myself going back to in the future for cheap maternity clothes with style!

Pregnancy is a time to celebrate and what better way than with a fantastic giveaway from SweetPea Maternity!

One lucky AME reader has the chance to win a $25 gift certificate to shop online at SweetPea Maternity! You could buy something really nice or if you're not expecting, gift someone you know who is!

Simply fill in the RaffleCopter ballot below to be entered to win! Giveaway open to US and Canadian residents only. Mandatory entry must be done for extras to count. Giveaway ends August 10th 2012.

It felt as if the entire country was going through an insane heat wave the past couple of weeks. It was hot, humid and if you didn't have air conditioning or some way to keep cool - almost unbearable.

It was so hot and dry that we constantly heard about fires happening all over, some caused by summer carelessness but others happened because it was just that dry!

We were all hoping for a rainy day, just enough to cool off the earth and give us back some sanity to sleep comfortably at night. We got our wish alright and some with thunderstorm/tornado warnings across the province of Ontario.

Now, it didn't last very long before it turned to plain rain but here's what fell from the sky during our Monday evening storm...

Great balls of...ice! Hubby snapped these shots over at his friends moms place where they were outside helping clean up her yard at the time the storm started. Luckily they were inside when these big chunks fell and nobody was hurt although the friends moms car was damaged a little by the impact of the ice.

Were you hit with any strange stormy weather where you live?

July may be almost over already but there is still another month and some before the kids are back to school. With the long weekend coming up, many of us are looking for fun ways to keep the kids entertained and ourselves sane!

One fun part about living in Ottawa is the beautiful downtown core which includes the Rideau Canal. The Rideau Canal is popular for Ottawa's Winter Lude during the colder months and its just as bustling when everything is melted with celebrations like the 5th annual Rideau Canal Festival happening soon in our nations capital.

Come learn, laugh and play at the Rideau Canal Festival August 3rd to 6th taking place at two locations here in Ottawa; Bytown Museum/Ottawa locks and the Dow's Lake site. This special festival was voted one of Ontario's top 100 festivals in 2011. It's educational, its fun and the best part, its free!

For it's 5th anniversary and 180th birthday of the Rideau Canal, the festival has to celebrate with more fun and activities for families than before! Over 100,000 visitors can come out and enjoy the festival's free programming, live entertainment, and activities that appeal to all ages!

Some of the festival activities include:
  • Outdoor shows on stage; Live bands & DJ's, Celtic music, and Ceili  on the Canal
  • Buskers, jugglers, stilt walkers, fire weavers, face painters etc.
  • Connecting children with world heritage; Children's crafts and activities
  • Stone and Canoe carving exhibitions
  • Rideau Canal Heritage walking tours
  • Kayak tours, Canoe and paddle boat rentals, hula hoop workshops
  • Pirate adventures
  • Parade of lights, Dows Lake Pavillion fireworks, and Rideau Canal Festival Flotilla
  •  Acrobatic dance shows
  • Colonel by day Celebrations and much much more!
It sure sounds like they have something there for everybody in the family! If you'd like more detailed information about the festival please visit www.rideaucanalfestival.ca

The galaxy is under attack by crazy martians, your little astronaut has tried everything in his power to gain control of the situation. Suddenly, a light shines from within the capsule of his crashed ship; The Koosh Galaxy Solar Recon Ball Launcher will send those martians back where they belong so your little hero can fix his ship and be on his way home in time for lunch!

Sounds like fun imaginative-play doesn't it? Nerf brings your little ones a whole new world of fun with the new Koosh Galaxy series blasters! These are not your typical Nerf blasters, they are bigger and faster than before but made for the younger group. They have quick blasting action but the foam balls are soft.
Typically when you think Nerf, you think older kids but I like that the Koosh Galaxy series are made for little people like our son. The Blasters are made for ages four and up so its perfect, just remember the rules of no shooting in the face etc. That's typical with any game or toy that has balls involved.

Little guy was super excited when he saw the colourful box containing his new Koosh Galaxy Solar Recon Ball Launcher. It takes some adult assembly, but no tools required. Just pop the ball loader on top the blaster, install the batteries and you're good to go.

There is an on/off switch on the side on the blaster, it lights up when you turn it on and the balls glow in the dark. Considering they shoot very far, it's good that they glow in the dark because it makes it a little easier to find them once they go flying. This is a toy that unless you have an enclosed back yard, it would be best to play with it inside in a basement or a play room. I wouldn't let the kids run around everywhere in the house with it for obvious reasons.

There are four blasters in the Koosh Galaxy series including Space Agent, Alien Archer, Star Scout and Solar Recon Ball Launchers. Each blaster comes with four soft foam Koosh balls and requires 3 AA batteries to operate lights and sounds.

See the entire line of Koosh Galaxy Blasters, accessories and refills on the official website!

Our kids are your average four and seven year old. They enjoy playing games, playing outside and of course watching cartoons during down time. Although they may not always be on, we try to encourage them to watch more types of cartoons that are both educational and entertaining.

One of our kids favourites is Martha Speaks which airs on PBS Kids. Monday July 23rd, tune into all new episodes of Martha Speaks!

In "Dog Dayz" Carolina teases Martha about her dog-like ways. Martha wishes Carolina could just for once see things through her eyes. That night, Carolina goes to bed as usual only to wake up as a dog! I wonder if she will finally see things through Martha's perspective.

Also airing that day you won't want to miss "Moneyshines Martha". In this all-new episode Helen has a ton of homework, so much that it leaves her little time to do anything else - even spend time with Martha. At loose ends, Martha befriends Professor Monkey. With his wacky inventions, Professor Monkey propels Martha into a world of new adventures.

Check your local listings and mark your calender! You wont want to miss these great new episodes of Martha Speaks!

Since becoming a mom I have inherited many titles including the title “Photographer”. No, I am no professional but I am usually the one behind the camera capturing those moments we want to save forever. Of course a picture can tell a thousand words but there really is nothing captures the essence of life like a camcorder.

We have owned a few different cameras with video capability over the years but nothing like the Sony Handycam. Making videos with the PTPA award winning Sony Handycam this past while has been an experience on its own. Sony Handycam captures the moments in crisp, high-def colour and quality sound as it’s meant to be.

The best video recorded with Sony Handycam no matter what the lighting. The 60X optical zoom makes it easy to zoom in and capture the moments up close. Imagine looking back on your child’s first year and reliving those milestones like first words and first steps. Pictured up close and personal; in true HD quality.

No more shaky videos and everybody is captured with face recognition, for someone with a shaky hand like me, these are some of the best features!

What’s a video without sound? Sony Handycam not only captures videos the way they are meant to be seen but also the way they are meant to be heard. It captures even the slightest or far-away sounds which complete the video.

Sony Handycam is better by design with features like a long battery life, all the more recording to do. Great for taking it places like the first time you drop off the kids at sleep-away camp or family vacation with GPS and in-camcorder maps!

Sharing the memories couldn’t be easier with the Sony Handycam. The built in projector lets you show off your home movies wherever you want, whenever you want. Plug in the camera via HDMI for livinroom enertainment, show off those cruise videos. Edit and upload your videos to YouTube or face book using the Play Memories software!

The Sony Handycam is much more than just your average camcorder and definitely worth capturing your memories with. We had a great time creating some of our own family memories. See our video below of our family having some summer fun, caught with the Sony Handycam.

For more information about the Sony Handycam please visit the Sony Handycam website Connect with Sony Canada on your favourite social media networks Twitter and Facebook!

July has been its usual hot month so far, driving us to lather up with sunscreen, throw on a hat and head off to the nearest pool, water bottles and towels in hand. Summer is great, even when it's hot we find ways to keep it cool, even heading on in on the really bad days to sit in front of a fan or enjoy some air conditioning.

Being pet owners, we not only have to worry about keeping ourselves and the kids cool during the hot days but also our three dogs! We have a Doberman and two Chihuahuas, even though they have short hair they still cannot withstand long periods of time in the sun or blazing heat. It is easy for a dog to over heat and sometimes they don't have the ability to figure out how to cool themselves off. Here are some great tips from Iams to help you keep your four legged friend cool this summer!

Don't leave your pet alone in a vehicle on a hot summer day! The importance of this first one cannot be expressed strongly enough. Cars can reach temperatures over 49 degrees, that's like an oven. Have you ever left something plastic like a CD in the windshield of your car on a hot day and have it melt through the heat of the window? Heat like this can melt plastic, imagine your furry friend? Heat stroke and heat exhaustion can be fatal - even with the window down a crack.
If you witness somebody being ignorant and leaving their pet in a car on a hot day make sure to tell someone and have the local authorities contacted. We witnessed a dog being left inside a black van on a hot day, luckily someone reported the van. Police and The Humane Society were on the scene to break the mans van door to release the dog. The man was inside the store grocery shopping.  Do your dog a favour, unless there is someone to wait with the dog with the air conditioner in the car on or he can come inside where its cool with you, leave Fido at home.

Prevent over heating indoors and keep cool! Animals can easily over heat even indoors, especially dogs and cats with longer, thicker hair. Air conditioning is the ideal way to go for anyone to stay cool, pets included. If you don't have air conditioning or central air, place fans around the areas where your dog goes like their bed where they sleep. Fans help circulate the air in your home and your dog will have less chance of over heating.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Keep those water bowls flowing for your four legged friends. Add ice cubes to quickly cool off the water, some dogs even like chewing on ice cubes to help keep cool! Our Doberman makes an ice cube bobbing game out of it by trying to catch the cubes in the water bowl.

Cool it off with a dip in a pool! Sure, Fido may not be able to swim in the family pool but he deserves some cool fun too! Fill up a kiddie pool especially for the dog to jump in and out of on hot days. If this isn't possible there's always the old hose-down with the garden hose! Placing a cool, wet towel on the ground for your dog to lay on will also help.

Shorter summer walks. Pavement gets extremely hot in the summer time. When taking your dog for a walk its a good idea to keep to areas like parks where it's more grassy and cooler on their sensitive paws. Don't forget to bring a water bottle and make frequent stops along the way. As important as keeping up with exercise routine for your dog is in the summer, make sure to keep the walks short and be patient, dogs walk slower when they're hot.

Expecting a baby means once again doing the one thing I can say I don't mind doing - baby shopping! We are going to need everything all over again, including baby clothes. I am actually looking forward to checking out some of our favourite baby stores.

Disney Baby is now in Canada and they are introducing us all to a brand new line of fantastic Disney Baby clothes featured at one of my favourite baby stores, Babies R US!

Did you know that the average new born baby goes through over 35 body suits just in their first year? That's a whole lot of onesies for one baby!  The Disney Baby collection is inspired by real moms and developed by the Disney team of "Momgineers".

Even though our baby-to-be has some time before he or she graces us with their presence, we were asked to take a look at the Disney Baby Cuddly Bodysuit. What better opinion than that of expectant parents, we only want whats best for our future sprout!

The Disney Cuddly Bodysuit makes babies even more huggable, allowing mom to focus on those special magical moments right from the start. Made with super soft 100% ring-spun combed cotton so moms can welcome their little ones with a cuddle.

Disney Cuddly Bodysuit come in sizing from 0 to 12 months and come with matching shorts. They come in a variety of styles featuring famous Disney characters like Winnie the Pooh, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, The Little Mermaid and Finding Nemo! There is a bodysuit for every little character!

The Disney Cuddly Bodysuit we received is perfect as we don't know if we are having a girl or a boy just yet, everybody loves Winnie the Pooh! I like how it looks as if it was drawn with crayon by a child, so cute!

I like that they are the first infant bodysuit to feature a patented grow-with-me design with two rows of snaps to ensure extended use as baby grows. This is a money saver as we all know, babies grow fast!

Thoughtful of baby's delicate skin the Disney Cuddly Bodysuits have a tagless neck, no scratchy tags on their sensitive skin. They are also safety stitched for added strength, holding shape after repeated washes.

Available now at your local Babies R Us store or check out the Babies R Us Website to find your perfect Disney Cuddly Bodysuit!

As a review blogger I obviously get a lot of packages coming to my door on a weekly basis. Some of these come via Canada Post, others via FedEx and some via Purolator.

Typically if you are not home, or happen to be home and just miss the door as the driver is pulling away - the driver won't return and you either have to call up the courier company for a re-deliver or just go pick it up at the nearest location stated on the little ticket that the driver leaves stuck to the door. Depending which company you are dealing with, this could be simple task or a nightmare.

I received one of those little tickets on the door at the end of this week. I had been expecting packages or the likes all week but nothing was coming, it was also the week after Canada Day so that makes for some slower than usual deliveries.

I thought it would be safe to take a shower since it was almost 11am and nobody had come to the door - yet. Just as Im in the middle of my shower I hear the dog run down stairs and start barking. I called for one of the kids to tell me if someone was there but of course they didn't hear me so by the time I got out of the shower and down stairs the truck was long gone.

I took the ticket off the door and called up Purolator to let them know that I missed the delivery but the location is way too far to pick it up so I need a redeliver. No problem, the customer service rep was more than helpful and set everything up.

I was happy, my delivery was coming back on Monday and all was well with the world once again.  Several hours later, I see a purolator truck stop in front of the house. I was surprised, purolator again?

The driver is a regular delivery guy who has been delivering packages to me since I began blogging back in 2009. He said he knows I'm usually home and decided to try again once he was done his route. How nice and considerate of him! Not making me wait an entire weekend for my delivery!

I would like to thank Purolator for their help and also for having such great employees like the one who delivers at my house. If all companies had customer service like I got today, I think the world could be a happier place ;)

Disclosure: NOT a sponsored post. Posted by AME based on actual events and in no way affiliated with purolator or any other mentioned courier company other than being a customer. Opinions and comments on this blog are those of AME.

July is here which means we are going to be out and about enjoying the beautiful and hot summer weather.  One of my favourite things to wear during the summer months are flip flops or sandals. They are simple to slip on and off plus it gives us an excuse to give ourselves a pedicure and show off our toes!

Are you like me and end up having "winter feet"? Dry, cracked skin that needs a whole lot of love before those feet dare touch the sandals. Feet will love the SkinFix!

We were introduced to SkinFix earlier this year with their PTPA award winning diaper rash paste, Lip repair balm and wrinkle repair cream. Outstanding products for everyone, created from a family recipe. The SkinFix Foot Care pack has everything you need to get your feet summer-ready!

The SkinFix Foot Care pack includes:
  • SkinFix Body Repair Paste
  • Skin Fix Body Repair Paste (takeaway size)
  • SkinFix Tulip Foot Exfloiator
  • Intense Therapy Toeless sock
The SkinFix Foot Care pack is simple to use and the Body Repair Paste does the work for you, while you sleep! After your bath or shower, rub your feet all over with the Tulip Foot Exfoliator, make sure to gently work on the rough and cracked areas the most. Wipe the area free of any dead skin and apply the SkinFix Body Repair Paste over the areas that need it most. If after absorbing the cracked areas still show, apply a second round.

If you have a bad problem with cracked, dry heels use the Intense Therapy Toeless sock after applying the Body Repair Paste, wear them over night! Smooth-sandal ready feet in no time with the SkinFix Foot Care pack!

SkinFix Body Repair Paste - the key to soft skin!

You can purchase SkinFix Body Repair Paste and other great SkinFix products right online on their website or you can check out what local stores have it near you!

Sometimes we plan things in our lives to go a certain way and sometimes opportunities arrise that we cannot ignore thus changing our plans. I changed my plans recently, unintentionally but changed them nonetheless.

At the beginning of the year my plan was originally to attend both Canadian blog conferences Blissdom Canada and ShesConnected this fall. Unfortunately both conferences fall on the same weekend which is where my dilemma came in. We purchased the Blissdom Canada tickets because we were supposed to attend Blissdom Canada and possibly one day of ShesConnected.

Things turned around to be the complete opposite for me. I have a pass to ShesConnected Conference 2012, I didn't know about this pass until last week. A ticket for this conference is not free and I have been entitled the entire weekend. It was hard to choose between the two, they both have a lot to offer but I have made the decision to miss out on Blissdom Canada this year and soak it up at ShesConnected!

I did not choose ShesConnected because it's better than the other or anything like that. Blissdom Canada was amazing last year, we had an amazing time but something just told me that it was the right thing to do this time. Also when I think about it, I will be almost six months pregnant when the conferences are taking place. I don't want to put too much onto myself. It sounded like a great plan before things changed with my life too, like I said sometimes the unexpected happens. Either way, I have made my decision and that is that. I am just happy everyone around me involved is supportive and happy :)

I am beyond excited to have been invited a second year in a row to ShesConnected - it really is an honour! I am going to be organizing this trip solo, which is something different but I'm a big girl and I think I can figure it out. Hubby is super happy for me and said it will give me a good opportunity to get away before the baby arrives at the end of January! He sounded less nervous when I told him about it than last year, I guess since I arrived home in one piece he trusts I can handle traveling to the unknown!

Now the only thing this whole conference ordeal rides on is if I can find a suitable sponsor. This time I'm only looking for travel and accommodations. I am happy to say that I have already been in touch with a few potential sponsors so cross your fingers for me!

I may be looking for a roomate or two to share accommodations, everything is in the works right now but anyone interested who is also going to ShesConnected Conference, drop me a line and let me know!
What about my Blissdom Canada ticket? Well, it was bought during early bird special sales and those are over - so anybody who missed out on that opportunity is welcome to take this ticket off our hands at the early bird price. Send me a message for details!

For those of you going to ShesConnected Conference this fall - see you there!!!!
My #SCCTO bobble head I won at a Twitter party last year ;-)

I'm officially 13 weeks pregnant, the above image was taken at 12 weeks during our ultrasound. 13 weeks means we are heading into our 2nd trimester, already! The first trimester I experienced the usual pregnancy symptoms like nausea, headaches, body aches and occassional tummy pains. Nothing that was abnormal or worrysome.

The worst of it was probably the constant fatigue and morning sickness which lead to day-long nausea for a couple of weeks. It didn't happen every day, just every other day. It has slowed down in the past week I have been feeling more and more "myself" - if I even know what that is these days with all the crazy hormones running through me.
I can't complain though, so far this pregnancy has been easier on me than my previous two. I was sick all day long for both the others, running to the bathroom. Not fun at all and makes you wonder why people say pregnancy is a "beautiful" thing. Really, it is!
I am still a little more tired than usual but hubby has been a big help and taking on a lot of what I was doing around here including laundry. I know my limits and I'm not pushing myself or stressing about very much, take it one day at a time.

I had an appointment with my doctor last week.  We discussed where we wanted to have the baby and she had her secretary set up the necessary appointments for ultrasound and filled out the forms for blood work at the Ottawa General Hospital.

Friday morning I headed off to the hospital. I would have brought hubby with me but it was K's first day of summer holidays so both kids were at home. He stayed back with the kids and I went for the ultrasound and bloodwork. It went quickly and went well, no problems and the baby looks great according to the technitian! I'll be going back for a 2nd round of blood work in July and also seeing my Dr. at the end of July for another check-up.

We are looking forward to the coming months as baby (and my belly) continue to grow!

We are all about being outside, especially now that summer is officially here! The kids both love spending time at the park and we were thinking of ways to get them even more active like a ride on toy or maybe new bikes this year.

Our oldest needs a new bicycle as she has outgrown the one from last year, she is older and is capable of riding. Little guy just can’t grasp the concept of steering and pedalling at the same time on a bike or even a trike. He gets frustrated and gives up. We were thinking of something a litter easier for him, something along the lines of a ride-on and that’s when I remembered hearing about the PlasmaCar by PlaSmart.

Introduced to the toy industry in 2003, PlaSmart is a Canadian toy distributer located in Ottawa, Ontario! Smart, simple toys that avoid electronics, toys that are difficult to figure out and toys that kids can have fun with is what PlaSmart is all about. They bring this promise to families across the country with quality and unique toys like the award-winning PlasmaCar!

If you don’t know what the PlasmaCar is let me tell you, it’s the best ride-on toy ever! It can ride up to 220 Lbs and doesn’t require batteries or electricity as it’s totally kid powered! Its light weight which is fantastic because it makes it easy to bring it to the park across the street and it comes in a variety of colours suitable for both boys and girls!

We had the opportunity to take a look at a PlasmaCar; both of our kids were excited to try it out when the box arrived! We were happy to see our PlasmaCar is bright yellow and black!
PlasmaCar takes some assembly and it comes with everything included like the body, steering wheel and cap, front and back wheels and a Hex key to help you put it all together. All we needed were the tools, a socket wrench and a rubber mallet.  It really only took about 5-10 minutes to put it together and literally seconds to learn how to drive it! I like the look of the PlasmaCar, it's unique and modern; our son thinks his looks like Bumblebee from the movie transformers!

PlasmaCar is made to drive on flat, smooth surfaces. It won’t drive on grass or rough terrain. The park across the street from us just got some brand new pavement not too long ago; off we went to try out the new PlasmaCar.

It is as fun as it looks. I have to admit I actually tried the PlasmaCar myself. I had to see how easy it was to use and it was really fun! I think PlasmaCar is great because it uses kid-power to move. It helps build confidence as it is fun and it’s simple to get going. Not only is this a great ride on toy to bring to the park or play on any flat surface but PlasmaCar would also be a great investment for schools to make for some extra fun too.

A definite recommend from a parent and her kids, we love our PlasmaCar! Check out the PlaSmart website to learn about other great toys they have to offer! Connect with PlaSmart on your favourite social media networks, Twitter and Facebook!

We hope all of our readers, followers and friends have a fantastic weekend celebrating our country's birthday on Canada Day! We did not really make any plans except for having a family bbq in the back yard but it's the holiday weekend so you never know who is going to call! So far the weekend has turned out to be three full days of visitors.
Friday we spent at the pool with a couple of friends who also have kids. They swam until the pool closed at 6pm and all of us headed back to our place. Because it was late and there were a lot of us we decided to all chip in and order some pizza. The kids had fun after the pool jumping on our back yard trampoline and just playing. It didn't take them much to fall asleep!
For Canada Day we asked a few people we know what they were doing and those without plans are welcome to stop in and join us for some bbq food, kids are welcome too! We have chicken, sausages, salads, cheeses, veggies, dips and for those who are able to have a drink we have that too! I for one being pregnant will not be drinking alcohol this Canada Day. That's OK, I have taken a liking to fruit juice lately, I'll just stick to that!

We would have loved to take the kids downtown but by bus it would be insane with both kids plus a bag of whatever they might need (water bottles, towels to sit on, change of clothes for little guy etc). I used to head downtown in my single years, it was always jam packed with party-people. Lots of fun but very busy!

However you celebrate our country today, be safe, drink responsibly and above all - have fun!
