Halloween is over for one more year and the kids had a blast! They began their days with "Black and Orange" theme at school. Each child also had a mini class party the final block of the day. Both came home with little treats from the teachers and friends!
It rained all day and made it a little worrisome that we would have to drag out umbrellas with us but luckily it stopped just in time to head out! The ground was wet and a bit muddy in some places but hey, it's better than trick or treating soaking wet! Plus it wasn't very cold outside this evening, perfect for trick or treating! I remember having to wear a snowsuit under my costume when I was their age. Did I just say "when I was their age"?

It took me about an hour or so to do K's hair and makeup for her Draculara costume. She had been waiting MONTHS to put it on in full gear and since shes normally not allowed THAT much makeup, it was a treat for her!

She looked absolutely awesome and got many compliments on the costume despite the fact we did not have the "real" Draculara wig - she has enough hair by golly who needs a wig when you have an imagination! :)

Little guy could not wait to be BatMan for the evening. He had been practicing his "muscles" stance for weeks now! Shortly after leaving the house we passed by a group of teenagers who started singing "Nanananana BATMAN!", D was tickled about that! Nice to see our neighborhood teens in the spirit with the little kids! :)

We went out as usual as a family, I love having Dh come with us. He's always proud about how polite they are, "Trick or Treat!" and a "Thank you" before they leave. D was even saying "Happy Halloween" to some folks!

K is a pro now at trick or treating. She knows our rule, if it doesn't look decorated or lit up for Halloween (including outdoor light) chances are we shouldn't be knocking. Little guy needed some help up and down some of the stairs. I know Halloween is about fun but I kind of wish people wouldn't put displays like pumpkins and things on the steps where a bunch of kids walk up and down. I love decorations don't get me wrong but I found the younger kids had trouble trying to avoid the bigger kids and not knock over a decoration or fall down the steps. Not a big deal, we helped D of course but would make it a lot easier for the kids I think.

The neighbourhood was out and about, yards decorated. Only one really bothered me, maybe because I'm pregnant but the whole yard was a morbid baby cemetery complete with a Hurst which contained...a "dead baby" in a casket. I found that a little much for my stomach to handle, Halloween or not that's not very nice to look at. I'm not scared of Zombies, maybe being a mom to younger kids softened me up but I like jack-o-lanterns and smiley ghosts over gruesome decor, save that for the zombie movies.

We spent about two or so hours walking the streets of our neighborhood, not as many houses participating. I always like to think its because people are out with their kids rather than losing the fun spirit of it all. My kids enjoyed their night either way, they each came back with a half a (large) shopping bag of goodies. Everything from mini-chocolate bars, chips, rockets and other various Halloween treats.

We checked them as soon as we got home (did you hear the news about the razor blade found in a kids candy bag in London Ontario? Omg!).

We let each kid pick out a treat before bed, they were good at waiting until we got home to check them before asking for any.

I enjoyed seeing them enjoy the simplicity of Halloween. The laughs, the joking and the fun even just as we walked is always well worth it plus they are still young enough to want to share some of that hard-earned loot with mom and dad. ;-)

We hope you all had a wonderful night too whether you stayed in and handed out candy or roamed the streets collecting it! Happy Halloween!

Tonight is the big night, Halloween! The kids are excited and can't wait to finally get out there trick or treating in their new costumes! While we walk around our neighbourhood door-to-door collecting candy we have to make sure our kids are safe. Not everybody walks, of course some people have younger children, come from a different neighbourhood or whatever the case may be in a car. It's up to everyone both pedestrian and driver to take precautions when out on tomorrow night to ensure everybody has a safe and happy Halloween!

Purolator are one of the biggest (and most reliable in my opinion) courier services in Canada delivering thousands of important packages across the country daily. They have always been dedicated to ensuring the safe delivery of packages to customers with friendly service and this doesn't stop on Halloween!

Check out these Halloween safety tips for drivers and trick or treaters, courtesy of Purolator!

We hope everybody has a happy, fun and above all safe Halloween with your family and friends!

I can't believe how quickly the month of October has just flown by! October 31st, Halloween is already next week! The kids have been getting more and more excited, watching Halloween specials on TV and the whole bit. We are totally prepared this year though, both kids have their costumes picked out and accessories ready to go. Decorating will take place in the coming days, getting ready for the annual scary celebration!

You can make this Halloween spooktacular with Hasbro! Last year we were introduced to Treats without the Sweets - mini Play Doh to hand out in place of candy for the goblins that visit your door!

This year Hasbro brings even more fun to Halloween with new Hasbro Mystery bags! Each Mystery bag contains a fun character from My Little Pony, Littlest Pet Shop, Angry Birds Star Wars, KRE-O Transformers, Marvel Bonka Zonks and more!

Hasbro Mystery bags would make a great addition as Halloween party favours or even mix it up and hand them out at the door instead of bagfuls of candy this year. With so many allergies, health issues and parents just not wanting their kids loaded up with so much candy, it's nice to see brands like Hasbro bringing wholesome fun to our favourite spooktacular celebrations!

Hasbro Mystery bags can be purchased where most Halloween supplies are sold including Chapters.ca!

Have a safe and happy Halloween!

Ever buy a gorgeous short sleeved or sleeveless top or a tank and hate to part with it when the cooler weather comes along? Not wanting to cover up that top but wanting to keep your arms warm without a cardigan? Wear Ch*Armz!

Created by Colorado-born Carlie Tracey after she had purchased summer tops but wanted to wear them still on cooler days. In LA (where Carlie now lives) there is no winter but layering is a must in the cooler seasons. Ch*Armz are attachable sleeves that transform your basic blouse, fashion top or t-shirt into a fashionable long sleeved shirt that not only looks great but also keeps you warmer.

How do Ch*Armz work? Ch*Armz transform your style by simply attaching Ch*Armz to your bra straps with the Velcro tabs, put on your top as you normally would and voila! A new look and warmer arms.

Ch*Armz also offer ballerina shrugs to go over any sleeveless or tank tops, to give that strapless dress a whole new look. There are many different ways you can wear these, quite impressive! I think Ch*Armz are a great idea for something a little dressier in any woman's wardrobe. You can fancy up just about any of your favourite tops!

There are many different styles to choose from on the website from solid colours to more daring patterns, its easy to mix and match your fashions and style! I decided on the black ballerina shrug as its simple and would go with just about any top really. The material is rayon/spandex so its soft but stretchy. The ballerina shrugs can be worn over or under any short sleeved or sleeveless top for instant sleeves! Ch*Armz come in sizes and styles for all.

I think these would make a great addition to the wardrobe. A fun gift for that fashionista in your life who needs to cover up or any woman who wants to spice up her style with Ch*Armz!

Visit www.ch-armz.com to purchase your Ch*Armz for $28.00 (US).

We are only touching the end of October and it's not officially fall yet until November but my neighbourhood might say otherwise. Lawns are covered with colourful fallen leaves from the trees, children brush through them running home after school - mine included. One of the small joys of being a mom, watching your kids run through the crisp fall leaves with complete innocence and joy in their eyes. My son especially loves doing this during our jaunt home after getting off the school bus in the afternoons.

Although the city did cut down many, our neighbourhood is still pretty plentiful when it comes to trees which make for some beautiful colours to enjoy while we are out. Greens to reds, yellows and oranges of fall remind us that change is in the air and soon we will be heading into a new season once again.

Here are some reminders of the beauty of fall...

What do you love most about Fall?

The hustle and bustle of fall conferences are behind us now and back to reality we go. This past weekend was a truly great one - I was in Toronto attending the 3rd annual ShesConnected Conference with hundreds of other great digital women, bloggers and friends!

ShesConnected is about more than just talking to brands and bloggers, its about learning, community and connections - which I felt part of many during my stay.

The first day was a little bit overwhelming, but I still enjoyed myself nonetheless. I admit, I was tired from being up early, flying in and making our way to the Convention center for the event. The Metro Toronto Convention Center is HUGE! I don't think we have buildings that big here in Ottawa, one could easily get lost inside trying to find their way around.

The conference was buzzing with energy, being greeted by friendly and familiar faces is always a plus. It was fantastic meeting some new as well. It almost felt like one big giant Tweet-up or Twitter reunion of sorts. We arrived right on time to register, get our #SCCTO badges (and swag bags with our awesome Ford t-shirts!) and join the end of the Blogger Niche portion where you sat at tables in groups in your blogger niche. I felt like a deer in headlights and excited at all the familiar faces I wanted to say hi to (sorry to those who I missed or didn't get enough of a chance to talk to, I love you all!) My niche tables were full but that's okay, I had the opportunity to say hi to many wonderful people!

I spent the day with friends, meeting other bloggers and networking with brands. Trying to soak the reality of it all in on little sleep and fresh off an early flight. I found myself visiting the McCafe Lounge quite often, the Mocha's and smoothies are so yummy and the McDonald's reps so friendly! I wish I had the chance to get a massage but there were plenty of deserving ladies who did the honours for me!

Ford was a main title sponsor of this event and had an adventure lined up for us! Check out the video of my Escape with Ford! I met some of the Ford representatives at last year's ShesConnected Conference, they were also the title sponsors then too so it was nice to see them back once again to show us what they have and what they are planning for the future of Ford Canada.

Molson had beer and cheese tasting, I didn't have any beer but the cheese was good! iLashme was giving lash makeovers, CAA had a table full of cupcakes and Hasbro had a table full of toys!  We spoke to our sponsors SkinFix Inc, I was happy to see their booth. Almond Fresh who had their yummy Almond milk and smoothie cups for us, IronKids Gummies were there with new fibre for the family and Rent Frock Repeat with their gorgeous gowns. There was literally something for everyone, lots of connections made and lots of fun to be had. To see the full list of wonderful sponsors who made SCCTO possible please visit www.shesconnected.com.

You can check out my ShesConnected Conference 2012 experience slide show below!

Day 2 was when I felt more relaxed, we spent the day with sessions and more networking. My snap shots only begin to touch the surface of the fun we had this weekend. Unfortunately I did not make the parties as by the time evening approached I was so worn out I was lucky to make it somewhere to have dinner. I wish I had more energy, I would have loved to attend them with everyone. Either way, it wasn't about the parties for me - it was about everything else. I spent my evenings in good company with @Orangeheromama @TabithaPye and @MyBitsandBleeps, thanks girls for keeping a pregnant mama company in a strange city! :)

The sessions that we attended were informative for the blogger seasoned and new. There was literally something for everyone to learn whether you are a veteran blogger, a new blogger, thinking about starting a blog or even a pr rep wanting to learn how to work with bloggers. There was so much information to absorb between sessions, meeting the brands and general networking.

The speakers were great, the environment was exciting, definitely a bigger ShesConnected than last year and if all goes well, I would like to go back for a 3rd round next year!

Thank you to my sponsors SkinFix Inc and ThreeWorks. Thank you to also to @Donnaantoniadis, the fantastic sponsors and everyone involved in making ShesConnected Conference a great experience once again!

Finally the day is here - my long awaited trip to Toronto to attend the annual ShesConnected Conference is finally happening!

I will be away from Friday, October 19th to Sunday October 21st. Any emails, giveaways and such will be dealt with on Monday, October 22nd!

What I am looking forward to most about this trip besides learning some new and amazing things from some great speakers they have lined up is of course meeting and greeting with the great brands who have generously sponsored the event. I am also looking really forward to meeting (and reuniting) with some of my favourite fellow bloggers and tweeps I have grown to know and love over the past few years blogging :)

You can follow along my ShesConnected experience via Twitter @AMotherhoodBlog using hash tag #SCCTO and visit the schedule on www.shesconnected.com to see what we are all up to this weekend!

I can't wait to report back to you all about what an amazing time I am going to have, what I learn and who I meet - This trip has been beyond exciting all year, I can't believe the day is finally here!

Thank you once again to everyone who made this trip possible - my sponsors and the staff and ambassadors of ShesConnected! :-)

See you all when I'm back!

Batman is a well-known super hero character in almost any household these days. He is every little boy's hero and although they may not admit, some dad's too! ;-)

My hubby for one is a huge Batman fan, okay well maybe not HUGE - he doesn't collect action figures or anything although I think he may if I would let him or if our son didn't confinscate every action figure that comes into the house. Either way he has been a long-time fan of the Dark Knight, Batman. He has all the movies in several formats - VHS, DVD, Blu-ray and digital copies. He always buys the collectors edition DVD-bluray combos. This year I will be giving him something special to add to his Batman collection, no not another movie but this time Batman books!

Batmobile - The Complete History, puts Batman fans in the drivers seat with a full-colour photo book. This book is any collector's dream as it not only features detailed, full-colour images but also detailed information about Batmobile and the history behind the iconic vehicle driven by the iconic capped crusader since 1939.

This book from Insight Editions takes you on a behind-the-scenes look at each Batmobile through its images vibrant and narrative description. From the Batmobile's interior to what makes it zoom through the streets of Gotham, this is a really great and interesting book for comic book movie fans alike. This book is hard cover goes for $25.50 on Amazon.ca.

The Dark Knight Manual - Tools, Weapons, Vehicles and Documents from the Batcave by Brandon T. Snider, is not your ordinary picture book at all! It follows Batman through history and looks like a scrapbook of every movie memory moment of the Dark Knight. From the death of Bruce Wayne's parents to the capture of the Joker in the Dark Knight series, this detailed book is an excellent addition to your Batman fan's collection of memorabilia. Definitely a must-have for any Bat Man fan collection, The Dark Knight Manual can be purchased online for $30 at Amazon.ca.

My mom was always one who liked to keep organic or hand-made soap on display in our family bathroom. They smelled nice and they looked nice too in a decorative basket. She would never let us use those ones though I have received hand-made soaps myself as a gift from time to time. I find hand made soaps great for skin like mine which is prone to break out from chemicals and such used in the average bar soap. They also make a beautiful addition to gift baskets for birthdays, weddings or baby showers.

I was recently introduced to PoppySoap, hand crafted botanical soaps. Poppy Soap Co. is an organic skin care company who believes what's best for your skin should also be safe for the community and the Earth. Their soaps are hand crafted with care and love in small batches with certified organic ingredients. The ingredients used to make these special soaps are beneficial to the body and mind. They have no sulfates, detergents, synthetics, artificial fragrance or colours, no petroleum, phtalates, GMO's or animal products.

The idea of Poppysoap came to founder Lindy LaRoche, who once worked in the medical sales field, when her son was born and she wanted to pursue her own dream of providing products that literally changed the way a person would live the rest of their lives. With her husbands loving support they worked toward a mindfully sustainable and healthy lifestyle to both their family and the environment. It can be difficult to switch from store bought to a more natural skin care product and that is why Lindy has personally created an organic skin care line that will nurture your skin and take care of your body. Not only does PoppySoap give to you but also to your community with "Bar for Bar". By purchasing a PoppySoap bar, a bar is also donated to your local women's shelter.

Lindy was kind enough to send me a 3-pack Holiday Gift Set which included the scents of our choice. The soaps come individually wrapped in a little cloth bag, all three soaps are beautifully gifted in a hand-stitched burlap packaging and wrapped with a bow.

We received Lavender Lemon Grass which is a calming face & body soap, Oatmeal Calendula which is a soothing face & body soap and Orange Patchouli Walnut which is an exfoliating body soap. As you can see from my photo, the bars are a pretty good size. They smell nice and you can tell just by looking at them that they are hand crafted and all natural. Typically I wouldn't want to try these out just because they are so pretty, but I did try out the Oatmeal Calendula which left my face and hands feeling soft and smooth with a nice soft scent. It's nice to know you are using a product that is safe for both family and environment in PoppySoap.

Check out the many other scents of PoppySoap on their website, use special savings code "MOMHOOD25" during check out and save 25% off your holiday order! You can also show PoppySoap some love by liking the PoppySoap Facebook Fanpage.

Fall is upon us as is cold and flu season, yuck! With the change in weather germs are everywhere causing us to catch whatever is in the air and all around us. It's even worse for those of us who have kids in school, do you know how many dirty hands touch everything every day at a school? Yeah, our kids always bring something home at least once or twice every fall. Our house was recently hit with a bout of the flu. The kids of course, starting off with the little guy, moving on to our daughter and it eventually hit hubby. He actually ended up catching one cold and recovered somewhat only to have it come back a second wind.

Sometimes catching a cold or flu is unavoidable but there is a way to help prevent it and strengthen your immune system. On top of having a healthy diet, taking daily vitamins, constant hand-washing and drinking tons of H2O, you can also help boost your immune system the natural way with Swiss Natural Echinacea.

Echinacea is a natural remedy that has been used to treat sore throat and colds for many years by Native Americans, so its got some history. The two most potent species of this plant are echinacea angustifolia and echinacea purpurea.

Echinacea activates cells in the immune system to help fight off cold and flu infections, support therapy that acts to treat cold, flu and upper respiratory infections and also helps relieve sore throat and other cold symptoms.

Although it is recommended from children under twelve to adults, I think personally this particular product would be better off taken by teenagers and adults only due to the size of the capsule itself. I find them quite large, especially if you don't like swallowing pills to begin with. The Swiss Natural Echinacea itself does however help subside cold and flu symptoms as my hubby started feeling better within several days of taking them. Because he is hesitant on taking things to begin with (he'd rather fight it out the hard way) he only started with only two capsules a day instead of the recommended three for adults, just in case. That seemed to be enough to help him feel better without any side effects, lets hope it doesn't return! Swiss Natural Echinacea goes for $12.99 at Swiss Natural retailers across the country.

Swiss Natural Echinacea is not recommended if pregnant, nursing and/or allergic to plants from the Asteraceae/Compositae (daisy) family. Always consult a doctor before taking any new type of medication.

Swiss Natural also has other vitamins and supplements available. For more information about Swiss Natural Echinacea and other products please visit www.swissnatural.com!  Connect with Swiss Natural on Twitter and Like them on Facebook for the latest updates!

With the crispness of the Fall, we are thinking the Holiday season is approaching quicker than we expect. Halloween hasn't even passed yet and stores already have decorations and gift ideas all over the place, filling their shelves with festive colours.

Our kids will soon be getting their annual chocolate advent calendars, one chocolate every day until THE big day! How fun was that when we were kids, getting a little treat daily just because it was the holidays and it doesn't have to stop when we are adults ladies. Little Ghosts and goblins are getting ready for Halloween in just a couple of more weeks! My kids already have their costumes picked out and can't wait to start decorating our house including carving our Halloween pumpkin to prepare for the big night!

Kellogg's sent us over a box of yummy goodies to share and create some fun Halloween treats with! What a nice surprise, the kids were thrilled (and so was I!). Inside our package we got a big box of Kellogg's Rice Krispies, Fireside Large size Marshmallows and a bag of candy/icing and treats to create our spooktacular masterpieces with!

Fun recipe ideas can be found on www.RiceKrispies.ca like the Halloween Bat treats and Monster heads!  We made a simple batch of Rice Krispie Squares and used the provided Halloween cookie cutters to cut out bats and pumpkins for the kids to decorate. It's also fun to decorate simple squares and other shapes that come from cutting with the cookie cutters!

We had fun using our imaginations and creating some yummy spooktacular treats thanks to Kellogg's! We would have been more adventurous had we had more supplies and time but hey it was fun and the kids enjoyed, can you tell? :)

Recently I have been having the urge to shop for things. Nothing over the top or out there but something for ME. I for one don't really enjoy dragging the kids out when I'm shopping for myself. It's not enjoyable when they are constantly wanting my attention and I can't actually look at anything I want to buy, I always end up forgetting something or becoming flustered and giving up only to walk out of the store with something for the kids instead.

Online shopping has become one of my favourite things over the past couple of years, that is when I have a few extra dollars to spend. My favourite way to pay is still PayPal and I am happy to see more and more stores are embracing the technology and accepting PayPal as a method of payment. I do have a credit card, I just hate using it online or ever for that matter unless I really have no other choice.

Being only a week away from ShesConnected I wanted to get "one more" top to wear to the conference. Thyme Maternity, who have generously sponsored me some attire for the events, sells some of their fashion through Babies R Us and they accept PayPal. Win, win situation for me! I ended up finding this lovely blue crossover maternity top on sale, it shipped and arrived within 48 hours. Talk about service!

What would an ensemble be without new footwear too? I found these nice black boots at FactoryShoe.ca. They have a decent selection of boots for men, women and kids but you have to shop around the site for the prices. Some are priced average and then others are a little expensive depending on what you are looking for. They also accept PayPal!

These boots were exactly the boots I have been looking for since two falls ago and I can never find a pair or if I do they do not have my size. I was lucky, they had my size AND they were on sale for only $30! I bought some insoles for them and they are very comfortable to wear for long periods of time, I gave them their first test run this past week.

Now, what is a new top and new boots without new makeup?  Just kidding, although I did go on a little shopping spree on www.elf.com (eyes lips face) I had been planning on purchasing some makeup and beauty supplies for a while now, just never got around to it and went on a whim one evening. Nail polish, remover pads, foundation, blush, the lashes for fun etc :)

Retail therapy at it's best for fall 2012 ;-) I didn't over do it but I'm happy with my shopping spree! Next I will be shopping for Christmas presents and baby gear, help me now! :)

The kids have been back to school for almost two months now, we pretty much have the routine in tact from getting up and ready to returning home and of course enjoying that after school afternoon snack. Ever notice it seems the whole family could use a pick-me-up around 3pm? Afternoon snacks are an every day ritual in our house, the kids are always scouring the cupboards and fridge for something quick to munch on.

As any parent, I want my kids to enjoy a healthy afternoon snack. Not junk food with empty calories, loaded with sugar that will have them jumping off the walls and crashing by the time supper is on the table.

We were recently introduced to Apple Chips by ThreeWorks! They are a healthy alternative to one of our original favourite snacks, chips - except instead of being made from potatoes they are made from Apples!

ThreeWorks Inc are a Toronto, Ontario based food company offering different healthy alternative options for food and beverage to families across Canada. They are also helping sponsor my trip to ShesConnected Conference, they supplied the funds I'll need to feed myself during the trip - how fitting a sponsorship!

ThreeWorks sent us along a cute gift basket of Apple Chips goodies in a variety of flavours for us to try and information about them to share with all of you.

ThreeWorks Apple Chips launched in Canada earlier this year. Apple Chips are unlike your typical dried fruit snack. They are dehydrated using a proprietary technique to retain all of the nutriens and the crunch. If you love the crunch of a potatoe chip, Apple Chips will surprise you but with more goodness. Apple Chips are made with the best real sliced Fuji Apples for a sweeter, less tart snacking experience. Apple Chips are fat free, gluten free, not fried and have no added sugar or GMO. Apple Chips have no artificial colours or flavours, all natural.

Apple Chips come in 6 flavours including Original, Cinnamon, Caramel and Mixed Berries which we got to try out. Apple Chips come in a resealable container (similar to that of a popular potatoe chip we all know) and in two sizes! One to share and one perfect for on the go! Apple Chips are all natural and also nut-free so they make a great healthy snack to send off to school or on outings.

Our package of Apple Chips goodness arrived just in time for after school snacking. The kids are always interested in trying out any new foods and didn't resist the Apple Chips. Although we haven't tried them all just yet, I can imagine they are all yummy considering we all really liked the Cinnamon and Mixed Berry flavoured ones. They taste just like pie, we all love apple pie in this house! If you're looking for a quick, healthy snack try out new Apple Chips by ThreeWorks!

Apple Chips can be purchased at select Loblaws, No Frills, Safeway, select Shoppers Drug Mart locations in the GTA, London Drugs, Northwest Company, select Shell Canada locations, Highland Farms, Michael Angelo's, Starsky, and Denninger's.
